When Your Boiler Stops Working
Domestic & Commercial Boiler Repairs
We repair boilers for domestic households and businesses, so whether your a tenant, homeowner, landlord, employee or business owner, we’re happy to help.
We understand that hot water and heating are essential for the day to day running of homes and businesses, so we’ll get to you and get your Boiler back up and running ASAP.
Registered & Experienced Gas Engineers
When booking a Boiler Repair with TM Hughes, your Boiler will be worked on by an experienced Gas Safe Registered engineer who’ll present the required identification upon arrival.
Whenever booking an engineer (whether with us or someone else), always check the Gas Safe ID, which shows the engineer is qualified, insured and legal—your also free to phone the Gas Safe number to double-check.
Our engineers have seen every type of boiler fault imaginable over the years. There isn’t a fault we can’t rectify.
Engineers will always turn up at the agreed time. The first step is to visually inspect your Boiler to see if a fault is apparent.
Tests are then conducted to establish why the Boiler has stopped working. Once we have established the fault, we can agree on a price for parts and labour and get to work.
Pay A Fair Price For Your Boiler Repair
We regularly review our prices to ensure they are amongst the best in Essex. You’ll find we charge lower than the recognised national companies and have reasonable prices than other engineers in the area.
Quick Repairs
Our vans are stocked with various essentials for boiler repairs, allowing us to complete repairs quickly, keeping the overall cost down. When the parts are not to hand, we can usually get them locally. In rare cases, we may need to order the part and will come back at a later time (usually the same day or the next day if we have to resort to an overnight delivery)
Some Common Boiler faults
Boilers are an overlooked hard-working appliance as they get older. They become less efficient and more prone to failure. Luckily parts can be replaced, and adjustments can be made to get boilers working again. If you’re experiencing any of these faults with your Boiler (even if it’s still working)
Boiler Keeps Switching Off – Low pressure causes boilers to switch off continuously. Low pressures caused by incorrect system pressurisation, leaks (worn seals, loose connections and broken valves), blockages and failing pumps. Never ignore a leaking boiler. Always get it looked at.
Broken Heat Exchanger – Limescale and debris commonly block heat exchangers, which cause boilers to fail. Unusually loud noises coming from your Boiler are usually a sign of a blockage. Get any weird noises looked at before your Boiler fails.
Broken Thermocouple – The thermocouple manages the level of gas the Boiler uses, cutting off the gas supply (preventing gas leaks) if the pilot gets blown out, a vital safety feature of all boilers. If the thermocouple fails, your Boiler won’t work. In this instance, we replace the thermocouple to get the Boiler working again.
Frozen condensate Pipes – Modern boilers use a condensate pipe that takes away excess condensation caused by boilers. Condensate pipes can freeze solid in the winter months preventing the Boiler from operating. Frozen pipes are defrosted and insulated, so this issue never occurs again.
On Completion
Once your boilers repaired, it’s switched on so we can check its functioning fully and your central heating systems working fully. The engineer will check all your radiators and bleed them if necessary. The work areas tidied up, and the engineer may offer some recommendations to protect yourself from future boiler breakdowns.
Makes & Types Of Boiler We Repair
We repair all makes of Boiler which include
We repair all boiler types, including system, combi, and regular powered by gas, oil, LPG, or electricity.
System Boilers
If you have a pressurised cylinder with no feed tank, then you have a system boiler. The Boiler heats the water, distributed to the radiators for heating and the cylinder for the hot water supply. Most working parts are inside the Boiler. System boilers are commonly found in the larger (3-5 bedroom) homes of Essex.
Combi Boilers
Combi boilers heat water instantly for the radiators and hot taps/shower. They don’t use a cylinder or feed tank—a simple design where all working parts are incorporated inside the Boiler. Combi boilers are mainly found in the smaller (1-2 bedroom) homes of Essex.
Regular Boilers
Regular boilers are an old-style design that uses a central heating pump, vented cylinder feed and expansion tank. Mainly found in older properties and the largest of Essex homes. Regular boilers have made way for combi and system boilers in recent years, although they are still sometimes fitted in homes with large hot water demands.
