I used these guys to remove and install a new gas hob. They were very professional and very fastidious about the whole process. Dylan who did the work was very tidy and friendly. Talked me through what needed doing.
Will definitely use these guys again.

Quick, effient and at a competitive price. Also made us aware of the current state and age our boiler, and what actions would be necessary going forward, which we appreciate.

Amazing company, quick turnaround on aircon. Kai really knows his stuff! Extremely happy with the install and products. Cleaned up after themselves and checked all concerns with myself along the way.

Due to a stupid mistake by myself, we ended up with a leak in our hallway upstairs that found its way into our kitchen! A quick call to Terry and arrangements made for one of his team to come and fix which they did, very efficiently and professionally and the young fella that did the job was a credit to TM Hughes! Being an ex Royal Mail employee, I recognised this as a 'First Class' service.....I will definitely be using this company again and will gladly recommend in the future.

Our Plumbers at TM Hughes & Son are fully qualified and have many years of experience fitting both Vented and Unvented Water Cylinders.

A few factors will determine whether you will require a Vented or Unvented Cylinder, so whatโ€™s the difference?

Vented Cylinders

Vented Water Cylinders are fed with cold water from a Watertank thatโ€™s usually located in the loft; hot water is distributed around the home using gravity. Most older houses will have a Vented system.

Vented Water Cylinders are cheaper to install and easier to maintain than pressurised Unvented Cylinders. As they are not connected to the mains supply, you will also have some water if the mains supply is switched off for any reason.

As Vented systems rely on gravity, tap pressure can vary in different rooms of the house. The pressure could be good upstairs but poor downstairs, so sometimes a pump may be required to establish desirable pressure throughout your home.

Unvented Cylinders

Unvented Cylinders have become more common over the last 30 years, primarily in newer homes. The system is fed directly from the cold water main (so no water tank is required). They also operate at mains pressure resulting in higher pressure and consistent hot water flow in your taps and showers.

Unvented Cylinders are a sealed system, so water contamination is highly unlikely, they are quieter than vented cylinder systems, and they can be placed anywhere in the home. A water tank isnโ€™t required, which frees up loft space and eliminates the risk of freezing in winter.

Unvented Cylinders systems are more technical than Vented Systems and can be unsuitable for combining with some power showers.

Both Cylinders offer advantages and disadvantages. The right one for your home will depend on these factors.

  • The size of your house
  • Mains Pressure
  • Your existing heating system
  • Your existing pipework and radiators
  • Your existing shower system
  • Installation & Maintenance Cost
  • Running Costs

Our fully qualified Heating Engineers will take everything into account and design and fit the most efficient Water Cylinder system for your home. We can also service, maintain and repair your existing system.
