New Boilers
TM Hughes & Son Heating Engineers have installed Boilers in Essex for over 30 years. A new boiler is a big purchase. So, it must be the right one for your home. It must be fitted by an experienced, gas-safe registered engineer and meet your requirements.
Boilers become less efficient over time and more prone to breakdown. Sometimes, they break to the point where they’re beyond repair or unsafe to run, so they are condemned.
If you have an old boiler and are considering replacing it or need a new one urgently, we can help you. We can remove your old boiler and install a new one to work with your existing central heating system.
Want to change your boiler type? We can make the necessary upgrades so a different type of boiler will work with your current central heating system.
Want a brand new installation? We can completely strip out the whole system and install a new boiler and central heating system.
Our heating engineers work with all types of boilers, system combi or regular, and all fuel types, whether gas, electric, or LPG.
We are a Worcester Bosch accredited company, but we fit all other makes of boiler as well. Engineers can undertake a boiler survey and provide you with a free, no-obligation quote.
Boiler Servicing
Look after your boiler with an annual service. Our service price is amongst the best in Essex. You’re welcome to book a service at the best time for you. Our gas-safe registered engineers are quick and neat. They follow a strict procedure. It covers every aspect of your boiler.
Seals are checked and replaced where necessary. Pipeworks are checked for leaks and corrosion. Water pressure and flows are checked and adjusted if needed. The gas burners are inspected to ensure they’re running as they should. All boiler parts are cleaned, and all valves and safety devices are checked.
Various tests are undertaken once the service is completed to ensure everything is in order. Then, there is a gas rate check and analysis of the flue.
The work meets the right standard. It follows safe gas rules and your boiler maker’s instructions. Whoever that may be. When we’re satisfied that the boilers are running properly and are safe, we’ll check the system and bleed radiators.
Rest assured, after the service. Your boiler will be running as best as it possibly can. You’ll enjoy optimal heat output, better energy efficiency, and less risk of boiler breakdown. We service all makes and types of boilers.
Boiler Repair
Boiler repairs are always inconvenient and never happen at a good time. When your boiler breaks, you want it fixed fast. This is especially true in winter when boilers most often break while working hard. We repair all types of boilers for both domestic properties and businesses.
Call us, and we’ll have a gas-safe registered engineer with you ASAP. Our experienced engineers have fixed all types of boilers over the years. There isn’t a repair we can’t do.
Faulty boilers can sometimes still run before breaking down. If you suspect a fault with your boiler, don’t leave it until it breaks down. Get it looked at, or call us, and we can diagnose the fault over the phone.
Common faults include the boiler switching off. Also, broken heat exchangers cause loud noises. The pilot light blowing out is a sign of a broken thermocouple. The last fault is frozen pipes. This happens when the condensate pipe freezes and stops the boiler, a common winter problem.
An inspection and some testing will quickly diagnose the fault with your boiler. We hold many parts in stock; if we don’t have them, we can usually acquire them on the same day. Rest assured, you won’t be without a boiler for very long. A boiler repair service includes no call-out charges.
Underfloor Heating
We install, service, and repair both types of underfloor heating and wet and electric systems. Nothing beats the feel of a warm floor underfoot or evenly heated rooms, something no other form of heating boasts.
Underfloor heating is highly energy-efficient and needs little maintenance. It is a dream and a great space saver, eliminating the need for radiators. Underfloor heating is popular for new builds and extensions, as well as for those with existing central heating who want to upgrade.
Underfloor heating works with most floor types. You can have a warm floor, whether carpet, wood, stone, vinyl, or tile. If you’re interested in underfloor heating, an engineer can inspect your space and existing system. Then, they can give you a free quote with no obligation.
Hidden under the floor out of harm’s way, underfloor heating is very safe from damage. If you damage your underfloor heating, we can quickly find the faults with a thermal camera. This prevents the need to pull up the whole floor. Most issues with underfloor heating systems happen above ground and can usually be repaired swiftly.
Whatever your needs are, whether installation, service, or repair, we can help you.
Powerflushing
Power flushing is the ultimate central heating maintenance, removing any sludge (debris) built up in your system. It’s best to undertake a power flush if your system is clogged or before a new boiler installation.
Over the years, rust and debris have accumulated on the insides of radiators and pipes. The debris is pumped around the system, and the water eventually settles and builds up in the pipes and radiators.
After a few years, this build-up will prevent your central heating system from working properly. It’s akin to having mud in the radiators. You’ll know when your radiators only get hot in the middle and top, or the top only. The bottoms are filled with sludge that stops the radiator from getting hot.
This is bad for your central heating system and your boiler. Loose debris can lodge in internal boiler components, causing failure.
Power flushing will remedy this. Chemicals are continuously pumped through your system, and dirty water is removed. This is repeated until the system is clear of sludge. Once satisfied, the system clears, and clean water is added along with an inhibitor. This process will keep your system clean for a long time.
The result? Your radiators will put out full heat. This will improve energy efficiency, lower energy bills, and prevent boiler breakdowns.
Gas Safety Inspections
Our engineers are gas-safe registered. They inspect gas safety and issue gas safety certificates (CP12 certificates).
If you let a property, you’ll need a landlord’s gas safety certificate . Are you legally required to ensure your property is safe for tenants? This includes ensuring the gas system and appliances are fitted correctly and safely, as required by the Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations 1998.
An inspection with certification proves your property is safe for tenants. This allows you to rent your property legally. It also lets you validate your landlord insurance and follow letting agents’ rules.
During the inspection, we check all gas appliances, including boiler ovens, hobs, and gas fires. We check to ensure gas burns at the right rate and doesn’t pose a carbon monoxide or leak risk. Appliance safety devices are tested to ensure they work properly. Gas connections, flues, chimneys, and the main gas supply are also checked.
Once everything has passed, a certificate can be issued. If your property doesn’t pass the gas check, we can advise on repairs and pricing. Often, we can perform repairs during the safety check (if we’re carrying the parts; otherwise, we’ll attempt to source them locally). If parts need ordering, we can return later to perform the repair, pass your property, and issue the certificate.
An engineer must renew the certificates annually. We’ll contact you before your certificate expires, so you’re always covered.
Gas Fire Servicing
For Gas fire safety and energy efficiency, it’s a good idea to get your fire serviced annually (before it goes on for winter at the end of autumn is ideal). If you’re a landlord with a gas fire, you must inspect it yearly. This is required by law (see gas safety inspections for more information).
A service ensures that your gas fires are safe, with minimal risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, and energy efficient. Our engineers service all types of gas fires. This includes open-fronted, high-efficiency, and outset gas fires. All flue types, including brick, chimneys, prefabricated, and precast flues, are covered.
During the fire service, we’ll clean the fire assembly. We’ll remove all the parts, like the pipes, catalyst, and burner units. Then, we’ll give them a thorough clean. Then, the fire is put back together.
The gas supplies are turned back on. The pressures are tested, the chimneys are inspected, and a ventilation test is performed. Once we’re satisfied the fire is working properly, a service record is written.
Please note we only service gas fires. Unfortunately, we don’t offer gas fire repair.
Gas Cooker Fitting & Disconnection
If replacing or removing your gas oven completely, you must use a gas safe registered engineer to make way for a brand-new electric oven. Never attempt to remove a gas cooker yourself.
We offer a gas cooker fitting and disconnection service. We swiftly disconnect your gas cooker and fit your new one. Certificates prove that your new gas cooker has been installed safely and legally.
We fit and disconnect all gas cooker types, including standard gas, LPG, and gas range cookers, built-in gas ovens, dual fuel cookers, and gas hobs.
If you have ordered a new cooker, we can unpack and install it. We will check that it works and fit any needed accessories, like a new fan.
We’ll ensure that your gas cookers are installed in a safe place away from obstructions such as sockets, switches, smoke alarms, etc.
Gas cookers are popular throughout the county. Gas is cheaper than electricity, and you don’t have to wait for it to heat up. You also get accurate heat distribution. Nothing beats food cooked by gas.
A proper installation ensures you’ll enjoy your cooker safely for years to come.
Leak Detection
We use specialised leak detection methods. They carefully examine underground pipes, plumbing systems, and central heating systems. They find the most elusive leaks to protect your property from water damage.
