Types Of Boiler We Repair
We repair all models of Gas, LPG and Electric Boilers. Combi Boilers, System Boilers and Regular Boilers. Combi Boilers are usually the easiest of Boilers to repair.
They don’t need a pump or water cylinder; they supply heat on demand using a heating element as the water flows.
We repair all System Boilers whether they are part of a vented or an unvented system.
System boiler’s include a cylinder so that it can be more complicated than combi boiler repairs. Boiler breakdowns are common with Regular or Traditional Boilers.
Found in older properties around Chelmsford. Regular Boilers have lots of working parts in the central heating system.
Boiler Repairs We Undertake In Chelmsford
There are many reasons why a boiler breaks down. Over the years, we have seen them all. If your boiler breaks down, ensure it’s looked at by a qualified gas engineer. Interfering with a boiler and central heating system is dangerous. And can cause unnecessary damage, Making your problem worse. Here are some of the common Boiler Repairs we undertake in Chelmsford.
Kettling
Over time sludge and limescale can build up in a boiler. This issue’s called kettling. This unwanted build-up blocks the water flow inside the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger then overheats and creates loud noises in your boiler and pipes. If left alone, kettling can cause the boiler to fail, in which case, a new heat exchanger’s required. If you’re suffering from loud noises in the system, it’s best to get your heating system power flushed. Before any damage’s done, shortening the lifespan of your boiler.
Leaking
Never ignore a leaking boiler. Leaks can cause your boiler to short circuit and fail. Leaking water from boilers can cause water damage elsewhere in your home also. Usually, a leaking boiler’s fixable by replacing a faulty seal or pressure valve. Too much pressure in your system can cause a valve to fail. If this is the case, our engineer will set the correct system pressure for you once the valve’s repaired or changed. It’s prevalent for a pump seal to wear out, causing leaking. Changing the pump seals is a common boiler repair job. Sometimes old boilers leak around the pipes. This could be down to improper fitting or corrosion.
Boiler Keeps Switching Off
If your boiler keeps switching itself off, this could be low pressure. If low pressure’s the issue repressurising the boiler to the correct pressure can sometimes be enough to fix it. Otherwise, a blockage in the system could be restricting water flow. An obstruction will need removing. A blocked or failed pump can cause low pressure, making the boiler switch itself off. In this case, the pump will need looking at.
Old Thermostats
An old unreliable thermostat can cause boiler issues. Your boiler could be in full working order, but an old thermostat is inaccurate or has failed. Preventing your boiler from working. If your thermostats the cause, then a new one will fix your boiler issue.
Pilot Light Keeps Going Out
Your boiler will stop working if the pilot light isn’t on. If your pilot light keeps going out, the first thing to check is the gas supply. If enough gas isn’t reaching the boiler, then it won’t stay on. The main cause of an extinguishing pilot light is a malfunctioned thermocouple. Stopping gas from entering your boiler. One of our engineers can change a faulty thermocouple for you. A new thermocouple ensures enough gas is getting to the boiler and the pilot light isn’t blown out. So your boiler will run all the time.
Low Pressure
Your boiler and central heating system require a certain amount of pressure to operate. If the pressure is absent, your boiler won’t work. A leak in the system can cause low pressure so can a faulty pressure relief valve. A leak in the system can be nasty. Water damage to your home could occur. One of our engineers will identify a leak in the system or a faulty valve. Getting your pressure back up to where it needs to be.
Unusual Noises
Unusual noises in your boiler or central heating system need looking at on discovery. These noises can state a fault in the system, such as failing pumps, Too much air in the system or low pressure. It’s best to get these faults looked at before they turn into serious issues.
Condensate Pipe Frozen
The wastewater from the modern condensing boiler’s expelled outside via a condensate pipe. These pipes should be insulated to prevent freezing in winter. A frozen and thus blocked condensate pipe can stop your boiler from working. Frozen pipes need defrosting.
Radiators are not heating up
If your boiler’s not working, then your radiators won’t heat up. If your boiler is working and your radiators are not heating up, you have one of two issues. If there’s too much air in the system, heat isn’t distributed around the radiators as it should be. If the radiators are only getting hot at the bottom, there’s too much air in the system.
A simple bleed will remedy this. You can do this yourself, or one of our engineers will be more than happy to do this for you. If your radiators are cold at the bottom of the bottom and middle, you likely have a sludge build-up in the system. A power flush will get your system back to full working order.
Boiler Breakdown Prevention
Boilers work pretty much every day of the year. Boilers need to be well maintained if you want them to last and not let you down. An annual boiler service will minimise the risk of a boiler breakdown.
Insulating vulnerable pipes in cold areas will prevent freezing problems. (which can lead to boiler breakdowns in winter). If you suspect a fault in your central heating system, give us a call. We will be more than happy to check your boiler and system for you. Boiler and central heating issues will never repair themselves. Left alone issues can turn into more severe and expensive problems that may write off the Boiler requiring a new one.
