TM Hughes and Son are experts in installing and renovating bathrooms. We have years of experience working as bathroom fitters in Chelmsford and Essex.
We work closely with all customers to ensure your requirements are met.
We have qualified staff. They will do all the work for your new Bathroom. This includes bathroom fitters, plumbers, heating engineers, tilers, and electricians.
When fitting bathrooms, we plan the work carefully. The different trades work together without problems, resulting in a perfect finish.
We will send one of our Chelmsford-based bathroom fitters to your home. They will review your needs and give you a free, no-obligation quote. Our process ensures we design and fit your dream bathroom.
First, we measure your bathroom space and consider any windows and doors. We will then discuss your requirements and any current design ideas you have.
We can answer any questions you may have and offer suggestions. Then, we will go through each part of the Bathroom and make sure we know exactly what you want.
By the end of the meeting, we will have a solid plan for designing and building a beautiful bathroom tailored to your tastes and exceptional functionality.
Bathroom Styles
We can design your Bathroom using a bathroom suite or with individual Baths, Toilets, Showers, and Basins. Whatever style you want, we can create the look. Your Bathroom’sbathroom suite defines your Bathroom’s design. A classic suite goes with traditional flooring and walls, while a modern suite goes with modern bathrooms.
Traditional Bathrooms
Traditional Bathroom suites are mostly white with rounded edges. They have classic features, including free-standing baths, single-pillar taps, mixer showers, and chain-flushed toilets. The taps are chrome or bronze.
Modern Bathrooms
You can get Modern Bathroom Suites in many shapes and sizes. They have features like back-to-the-wall, wall-hung, and corner toilets. They also have mixer monobloc taps and shower enclosures.
Many bathroom suites are available. They can be mixed with a wide range of taps, showers, and furniture to create your dream bathroom. You can get the classic Victorian look or a minimal, contemporary design.
Bathroom Flooring
The most important aspect of Bathroom Flooring is that it has to be water-resistant and have good non-slip properties. The flooring also has to compliment your decor and bathroom suite. Your choice of flooring will depend on who is using the bathroBathroomexample. Adults are less likely to slip than children. They are also less likely to splash much water over the floor, which young children are notorious for doing. So, tiles can be safely used in the bathroBathroomh only adults use. Rubber or Vinyl might be a better choice if you have little ones as they are softer if a young child slips over.
Engineered Wood Flooring
Wood flooring isn’t the best choice for your bathroom. Wood and standard laminate are prone to warping when wet. Good engineered wood flooring has many layers and is less prone to water damage than standard wood flooring. So, if you want a wood-finish floor, you can use it in some bathrooms.
Engineered Wood Flooring needs more care and attention than other types of bathroom floors. Any water splashed on the floor must be cleaned ASAP because this wood flooring is not the best choice when you have children. Wood-finish tiles and Vinyl are available if the wood is unsuitable for your home.
Floor Tiles
Ceramic or Porcelain tiles are an excellent choice for the Bathroom. They are hardwearing, 100% watertight, easy to clean, stain-resistant, and hygienic. Bathroom floor tiles are glazed or unglazed. Unglazed tiles chip less. However, they must be glazed once laid (unlike glazed tiles).
Tiles can be cold underfoot, which is nice in the summer but slightly unpleasant in winter. However, tiles are an excellent heat conductor, so they are ideal for use with Underfloor Heating, ensuring they are warm in winter.
Your tile choice will depend on your preferred finish and safety requirements. A large glazed floor tile has a shiny finish. It will look amazing. But unglazed tiles are less slippery. They can be made even safer using smaller tiles. The added grout lines increase non-slip properties.
Rubber Flooring
Rubber flooring is available on a roll or as tiles in many designs and colours. It is durable, easy to clean, and low-maintenance. Textured rubber is recommended, as standard rubber tiles can be slippery when wet.
Stone Flooring
Stone, Slate, and Marble have become increasingly popular in the Chelmsford bathroom over recent years, as waterproofing technology has advanced. Both are tough and look great when polished or honed.
Stone, Slate, and Marble flooring are pricier than tiles. Vinyl stone is very porous and needs treatment during and after installation. Stone will need treatment every couple of years. Slate and Marble are less porous, making them a better choice for the bathroom floor.
Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl Flooring is reasonably priced, simple to fit, and available in many designs, tiles, or rolls. Vinyl has high water resistance, is very hardwearing (could last up to 20 years), is soft underfoot and can be used with underfloor heating. The only disadvantage of Vinyl is that it can be slippery when wet.
Bathroom Walls
Your Bathroom wall will also have to be water-resistant, especially in the bath and shower area. Several options are available.
Wall Tiles
Wall tiles are probably the most popular choice for bathroom walls. Your Bathroom is partially tiled (around the shower and bath) or fully tiled.
Wall tiles are available in ceramic, Porcelain and natural stone. Ceramic and Porcelain tiles are superior to natural stone tiles in many ways. They are less porous, easier to work with and have better stain and scratch resistance. Stone tiles are harder to clean and require maintenance; they will need resealing every two years.
Ceramic tiles are the most readily available wall tiles, are easier to cut, and come in many designs. Porcelain is stronger than ceramic, less absorbent (only by a small 0.5%), and less prone to cracking. For these reasons, Ceramic tiles are mostly used for bathroom walls, while Porcelain tiles are mostly used for bathroom floors.
All tiles are available in various shapes (rectangle and square) and sizes, including gloss, matte, satin, and texture.
Wall Panels
Bathroom Wall Panels are a brilliant alternative to tiles. They are cheaper, easier to install and easier to clean. Wall panels are very hygienic and available in laminate PVC or acrylic.
Acrylic Panels are constructed from an engineered polymer. They are thinner than PVC and Laminate, with an average thickness of 4-5mm. They are also denser, heavier and more expensive than PVC.
Laminate Panels are made with an MDF or Plywood core and a high-pressure laminated backing on both sides, making them 100% waterproof. They are also available in many bespoke designs and finishes, so they’re ideal if you’re after a specific look.
PVC Panels are the cheapest, lightweight, durable material. They’re fully waterproof and up to the job, so they’re good for those on a budget.
Bathroom Heating
Our heating engineers are experts in bathroom heating. We can install both wet and electric systems, and two options are available: radiators or underfloor heating.
Radiators
Your choice of bathroom radiator will depend on the design and style of your bathroom. The following types of radiators are available.
- Standard
- Traditional
- Heated Towel Rails
- Ladder Towel Rails
- Designer
- Traditional
- Verticle
- Horizontal
Underfloor Heating
T M Hughes and Son can fit wet and electric underfloor heating with a thermostat. It will warm your bathroom and stop that cold floor feeling after a bath. Our qualified Plumbers and electricians ensure all work is done according to current regulations, giving you peace of mind.
