Welcome to TM Hughes & Son Gas Services Ltd. We install Gas Cookers in Chelmsford and the rest of Essex.
Why Choose a Gas Cooker?
Gas cookers are popular for Essex homeowners due to their affordability, instant heat, and precise temperature control. Unlike electric appliances, gas cookers work during power cuts and provide even heat distribution. Gas Cookers are considered cleaner and more environmentally friendly than Electric cookers.
The Importance of Gas Safety
Gas safety is essential for both homeowners and landlords. By law, all gas appliances must be installed or disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Once installed, we provide a Gas Safety certificate.
The Gas Cookers We Install
Our fully certified Gas Engineers install and disconnect a wide range of gas cookers, including:
- Freestanding Gas Cookers
- LPG Cookers
- Gas Range Cookers
- Built-In Gas Ovens
- Dual Fuel Cookers
- Gas Hobs
- Built-In Gas Hobs
Why Use a Professional Gas Safe Engineer?
Professional installation ensures:
- Full compliance with the latest gas-safe standards
- Safe connections
- The correct positioning for ventilation and clearance
- Peace of mind with a Gas Safety certificate
Safe, Professional Gas Cooker Installation
Before installation, we’ll thoroughly assess your kitchen to ensure it’s safe for your new gas cooker.
This includes checking for adequate clearance and ensuring the area is free from power points, switches, smoke alarms, and combustible materials.
We’ll safely disconnect and remove your old cooker, allowing the new one to be installed.
Once the new cooker is in place, our engineer will test all gas pipe fittings to ensure they’re completely secure and leak-free.
We’ll then confirm your cooker is operating correctly per manufacturer guidelines. After installation, you’ll be issued the appropriate Gas Safety record for peace of mind.
Installation Requirements
Before installation, the area around the cooker is carefully checked to ensure there’s enough clearance.
Gas cookers need sufficient clearance, and the cooker switch must be nearby—within reach but away from direct heat.
The ‘hot zone’ around hobs must be free from combustible materials such as kitchen units, wallpaper, electrical sockets, and shelving.
The minimum clearances required are:
- 750mm above the hob
- 50mm on each side
If these clearances are not met, we cannot undertake the installation. Please also ensure your new cooker fits the intended space and is within 1.5 metres of a suitable gas connection.
If needed, our engineers can install a new gas point.
Our Installation Process
- We turn off the gas supply.
- Your old cooker is safely disconnected and removed.
- Existing connections are checked to ensure they’re safe and compliant.
- New connections can be fitted during the visit or scheduled for another time.
- Your new cooker is unpacked, positioned, and connected to the gas supply.
- The gas supply is switched back on.
- All connections are tested for safety and leaks.
- The cooker is switched on and tested as per manufacturer guidelines.
- A Gas Appliance Installation Certificate is issued.
Need a Cooker Disconnected?
We offer a safe and professional gas cooker disconnection service if you’re replacing a cooker, remodelling your kitchen, or removing an old appliance. We’ll securely cap off the gas supply and issue any required safety paperwork.
