A ‘Boiler’s’ not just a ‘Boiler’ there are three types (regular, combi and system) all of which come in different sizes. Boilers are made by various manufacturers in the UK. We supply, fit, repair and service 14 different makes of Boilers. The most popular Boilers are Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi and Worcester Bosch.
When fitting a new boiler the first job is to establish what type of Boiler’s best suited for your household, then what size Boiler you need.
The type and size of boiler you require will depend on your home, the size and layout of your property.
Some people assume that a bigger boiler will always be better, this is true if you have a big home that needs a bigger Boiler but if you have a small to medium-sized house a bigger Boiler’s overkill.
A Boiler that’s too big will consume and waste excess energy needlessly adding to your utility bills.
Boiler size works both ways a Boiler that’s too small for your home won’t cope with your heating and hot water requirements which will be very frustrating (especially in winter)
A Boiler that’s too small will have to work harder and therefore more susceptible to break down.
Boilers come in various sizes, the sizes available will depend on the type of Boiler (regular, combi or system) we are going to use combi boilers as an example.
Bombi Boiler Sizes
- Small – 24-27 kW
- Medium – 28-34 kW
- Large – 35-42 kW
In the event of a Boiler replacement, it’s a good idea to take note of your old Boiler’s size and ask yourself if you were satisfied with how your old Boiler performed.
Was your home heated adequately? Or was it cold in places?
Did you have enough hot water? Or was you always running out?
A good rule of thumb is if you were happy with your previous Boilers performance then the size was correct for your home, and your new one should be the same size.
Not happy with your previous Boilers performance? Then a larger one could be in order. However please note that poor performance could have been down to faults with Your old Boiler. Always double check with a heating engineer to establish if you need a larger Boiler.
You can pretty much determine the correct size Boiler for your home by taking these three factors into consideration
- The size of your property
- The number of radiators in your home
- The number of bathrooms in your home
Here’s a simple table to help you determine the right size Boiler for your property
Number Of Bedrooms | Number Of Bathrooms | Number Of Radiators | Recommended Boiler Size |
---|---|---|---|
1-2 | 1 | Up to 10 | 24-27 kW |
3-4 | 1-2 | Up to 15 | 28-34 kW |
4+ | 2+ | Up to 20 | 35-42 kW |
Please note this is just a rough guide to give you some idea of your requirements, please talk to a fully qualified heating engineer before purchasing a Boiler.
