Worse still, limescale blockages can occur in the heat exchanger. You’ll know your boiler is affected if it makes a whistling sound like a boiling kettle. This is a severe problem that needs immediate attention. If your heat exchanger breaks, you’ll probably need a new Boiler.

Prevention is always better than a cure. If your boiler makes loud noises that warn something isn’t right, an engineer should take a look. It could be excessive air trapped in the system, which is easy to fix. Or the noise could be caused by something more severe, such as a severe blockage.

After removing a blockage, you may consider a power flush to clean your system of limescale and debris and help prevent further blockages.

Power flushing may also be advised if radiators:

• only heat at the top
• are cold at the bottom
• have poor overall heat output
