They demonstrated excellent behaviour throughout the visit, listening carefully to my concerns and asking sensible questions about key details such as the location of valves, rather than proceeding by trial and error. Their work was clean, fast and precise, and they were punctual and respectful at all times.

I had TM Hughes and Son round to replace a boiler.
They were very efficient . When they left they made sure I knew how to control the boiler and thermostat if the need arises.
They also left the house clean and tidy.
Thank you TM Hughes and Son.

Welcome to TM Hughes & Son Gas Service Ltd. We improve central heating systems in Wickford with Powerflushing.

Powerflushing is an effective cleansing method that completely clears central heating systems resulting in better running, total heat output, improved energy efficiency and less expensive fuel bills.

Over the years, central heating systems accumulate a mud type substance that heating engineers call ‘Sludge’.

Sludge is a mixture of limescale, rust, oil and other particles which builds up in radiators and pipes, preventing full heating.

As a result, your Boiler and central heating system have to work harder, shortening the lifespan of your Boiler, pumps and valves while costing more to run.

Your radiators also don’t heat fully, resulting in poorer heating of your home.

Fortunately, Sludge is easily removed with Powerflushing. Chemicals and water flushed at high pressure through your system dislodge and remove all the built-up Sludge.

Once the Sludge is removed, your central heating system will run smoother with improved energy efficiency, and your radiators will heat fully all over.

The procedure includes a rust inhibitor which helps with preventing future Sludge from accumulating in your thoroughly cleansed system.

Long-Lasting Protection For Your Central Heating System

The effects of Powerflushing last for many years.

You can help ensure a trouble-free central heating system by Powerflushing every five years, servicing your Boiler every year and having any cylinders and underfloor heating systems checked every year also.

Powerflushing will ensure no loose pieces of limescale get caught up in the Boiler, which has the potential to cause serious issues.

Does Your System Need Powerflushing?

Here are some signs that your central heating system may need Powerflushing.

Go through the list, and if you’re experiencing any symptoms, then your system could do with a Powerflush.

If you’re unsure, give us a call and speak to one of our engineers, who will offer guidance over the phone.

Check Your Radiators

A quick check of all your radiators will determine that your central heating system needs Powerlfushing.

Bleed Your Radiators

Before we begin, you need to bleed all your radiators. Make sure the heating is switched off, and your radiators are cool. Otherwise, you may burn yourself.

Bleed each of the radiators in your home with a radiator key, Have an old towel or container handy to catch the water (you don’t want to stain your carpets or walls)

Now take note of the watercolour if the waters clear or grey the radiators ok. If the water’s brown or black, then your system needs Powerlfushing.

Repeat this process for each of your radiators.

Turn Your Heating On

Once you have bled all your radiators, make sure all the radiator valves are open/on and switch your central heating on.

How Quickly Do Your Radiators Heat Up?

All your Radiaoters should heat up within 20-30 minutes. If any radiators take longer than this, you may have Sludge in the system.

Are Your Radiators Hot All Over?

Are your Radiators hot all over? they should be if any radiators are cold at the bottom or middle and bottom, then they are built up with Sludge, and a Powerflush is required. Significantly blocked systems may include radiators that don’t heat at all.

Are Any Radiators Leaking?

Check each radiator for pinhole leaks. These small leaks are a sign of corrosion from within. Sludge causes corrosion, and pinhole leaks are an indication of Sludge in the system.

Does Your Boiler Switch Off Often?

Boilers that continuously switch off have pressure issues which are usually caused by leaks or blockages. Sludge can also affect low pressure. If your Boiler continuously switches off, you may need a Powerflush.

The Powerflushing Process

Powerflushing is a straightforward procedure that only takes a few hours, depending on how dirty the system is.

If you think you need a Powerflush give us a call, and we’ll give you a price over the phone.

A Gas Safe Registered engineer will visit your property at your booked time and date with a Kamco Powerflushing machine and Kamco chemicals.

Kamco is the best type of Powerflushing machine and the industry-standard used by professional heating engineers.

The machine is connected to your central heating system. The machine pumps chemicals through your central heating system at a rate of 170 litres a minute.

The pressure combined with the chemicals dislodges all the Sludge and debris built up in your radiators and pipes.

As the Sludge is dislodged, it’s broken down and filtered out by the machine and collected in bottles.

The machine is left running and refilled as required until your system is fully cleansed and the water is clear.

Once your system’s cleansed, the engineer will add a rust inhibitor to help keep the system clean and prevent future sludge build-ups.

The engineer will bleed your radiators and switch the central heating system on. You’ll notice how quickly your radiators heat up and how they are not hot all over.

The engineer tidies up, and takes payment. All the wastewater is taken away by the engineer.
