Welcome to TM Hughes & Son Gas Services Ltd. We offer Power Flushing to the residents of Leigh On Sea.
Do your radiators no longer get as hot as they used to? Do you feel your radiators take too long to heat up?
TM Hughes & Son have the solution, Power Flushing.
Power Flushing is a procedure that involves pumping chemicals through your central heating system until it runs clear.
Unwanted debris that accumulates in central heating systems is removed, restoring your central heating system to full heat output and energy efficiency.
The Power Flushing procedure is undertaken by experienced, insured, Gas Safe Registered engineers using industry-standard Kamco machines and chemicals.
Why Central Heating Systems Need Power Flushing
Leigh On Sea is classed as a hard/very hard water area. Hard water contains minerals such as magnesium and calcium, which create limescale within your central heating system.
Over time as water flows through your central heating system, the limescale is dislodged and settles in the bottom of radiators along with rust, oil and other debris common in central heating systems.
This mixture of debris builds up over time in radiators and is like mud. Heating engineers call it ‘sludge’.
Sludge causes central heating systems to work harder and stops radiators from heating quickly and thoroughly. As a result, more strain is put on your Boiler, and your system consumes more energy, costing you more money.
Most central heating systems will suffer from sludge during their working life, but there’s no need to worry. It’s removable with Power Flushing.
How Power Flushing Works
The first step is to contact us. We’ll ask a couple of questions about your central heating system and give you a free no-obligation quote.
You can book a Power Flush at a convenient time and date. One of our experienced engineers will arrive at the agreed time on the day.
The engineer connects a Kamco Power Flushing machine to your central heating system.
Once connected, the machine is switched on, pumping chemicals through your central heating system at 170 litres per minute.
As the pressurised chemicals circulate your central heating system, they break down all the sludge and debris which is dislodged and flows toward the machine.
The machine filters all the sludge and debris and removes them. The excess is collected in bottles.
The process is continued until your central heating system is completely clear of sludge and debris.
The procedure generally takes a few hours. However, the time it takes will depend on the condition and size of your central heating system.
For example, moderately sludged small systems with under ten radiators are far quicker to cleanse than severely sludged large systems with over twenty radiators.
Once your central heating system is fully cleansed, the engineer adds a rust inhibitor which will help prevent the buildup of sludge again in the future.
Your central heating system is switched on. You’ll notice how quickly your radiators heat up and how much hotter your radiators feel all over following a Power Flush.
How To Determine Whether You Need A Power Flush
To start, you need a radiator key. Go round every radiator in your home and bleed them with the key (if you don’t know how to bleed radiators or are not comfortable bleeding them, one of our engineers can do it for you).
Bleed until the hissing air noise stops and water comes out, tightening the valve. Have an old towel or rag to catch the excess water. If it’s dirty, it could mark your walls or flooring.
If the water from any of the radiators in your home is brown or black, then your system needs Power Flushing. Clear or greywater is ok.
Once the radiators are bled, switch on your heating and ensure all radiator valves are switched on. Wait until your radiators are hot and feel each one at the top, middle and bottom.
If any radiators are cold at the bottom or bottom and middle, then your system is built up with sludge and needs Power Flushing.
If any of your radiators don’t heat up, you could have a valve issue, or it could be severe sludge.
The Benefits Of Power Flushing
Following Power Flushing, your central heating system is completely clear from sludge and debris, offering several benefits.
Fast Heating
A clear system heats quicker. So every room in your home will go from cold to warm faster than before the flush.
Full Heat Output
Sludged up radiators may not get hot at the bottom and maybe middle if they are severely built up. However, once your radiators are clear, they’ll heat evenly from top to bottom.
A Quieter Smoother System
After Power Flushing, water flows freely through the pipes, radiators and Boiler. As a result, your system will run smoother and maybe quieter.
Increased Energy Efficiency
Your system will heat quicker and fuller, but it will also consume less energy. Improved energy efficiency leads to reduced fuel bills and a lower carbon footprint.
Boiler Breakdown Prevention
A clean, central heating system is friendlier to your Boiler. Unfortunately, pieces of limescale can and do block Boiler heat exchangers, which can lead to an expensive repair.
Following a Powerflush, all limescale is removed, so your Boilers are less likely to suffer a blockage and a breakdown.
Valid Boiler Warranty
If you have a new Boiler installed, you must have your system Power Flushed beforehand.
Boiler manufacturers stipulate in their terms that Power Flushing must commence before installation to validate the warranty.
One Visit Every Five Years
Power Flushing only takes one visit, and the benefits will last several years. However, to ensure sludge is kept at bay, it’s recommended you have Power Flushing undertaken every five years.
