Boiler Types
Boilers fall into three categories ‘Regular’ ‘System’ and ‘Combination’.
Regular Boilers
Regular Boilers are not the first choice for new installations these days as, in most cases, a modern system or combination Boiler will do the job better.
That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with Regular Boilers, which are, in fact, best for the largest of homes as they are good at supplying continuous hot water to multiple bathrooms.
Regular Boilers are fitted to traditional-style central heating systems that use gravity and include a water cylinder and water tanks to keep the system topped up.
We fit Regular Boilers in homes with traditional central heating systems or large homes with lots of bathrooms.
Suppose you have a traditional style central heating system with a Regular Boiler. In that case, we can make conversions to allow for a more straightforward ‘Combination’ or System’ Boiler, which will serve you better and be more efficient.
System Boilers
System Boilers are perfect for medium to large homes with three or more bedrooms and more than one bathroom.
A System Boiler includes a pressurised cylinder (also known as an unvented cylinder or sealed system). The cylinder ensures you have a decent supply of water to provide more than one hot tap or shower at the same time.
The pressurised system also delivers your water at an improved pressure which is very handy if you live in a low-pressure area.
System Boilers don’t use feed, and expansion tanks, so they are more compact and easier to maintain than Regular Boiler central heating systems.
Combination Boilers
Combination Boilers don’t need external components such as hot water storage cylinders, water tanks or pumps. Instead, everything is built into the Boiler.
Combination Boilers allow for the most compact central heating systems, easy to maintain. As a result, Combis are ideal for heating small to medium-sized homes. They account for over 50% of all new Boiler installations.
The Combi Boiler heats hot water instantly before distributing it to your radiators, hot water taps and shower.
Boiler Fuel Types
Most Boilers run on Gas but are also available to run off Electricity, LPG and Oil. Therefore, we mostly fit Gas Boilers, as Gas is cheap, clean and readily available.
For areas away from the gas grid, we can fit an Electricity, LPG or Oil Boiler.
Electricity is available in every property but generally, work out more expensive to run than Gas.
Oil and LPG are economical fuel types but need to be delivered, which incurs costs. In addition, LPG comes in bottles while Oil is filled into a storage tank.
If you run out of LPG or Oil, you’ll be left without heating and hot water until the delivery arrives, whereas Electricity is always available.
If Gas is not available at your property, our engineer will go over the fuel types in more detail during the survey.
Boiler Sizes
All Boilers are available in multiple sizes ranging from 24-40 kW. Smaller Boilers are best for homes with up to 10 radiators, while the larger Boilers will work in homes with over 20 radiators and multiple bathrooms.
The correct size Boiler must be picked for your home. If the Boiler is too small, it will not be powerful enough to heat your home and serve your hot water. Too big, and you’ll waste energy.
The Boiler survey allows our engineer to determine the exact size of Boiler required for your home. The size will be worked out by the number of hot taps, bathrooms and radiators your property has and your individual heating and hot water usage.
When To Upgrade Your Boiler
If your Boiler’s older than the manufacturer’s warranty period, you should start thinking about a new Boiler, especially if your Boiler has issues or needs an expensive repair.
Boilers become more and more inefficient as they age, consuming more fuel and costing more to run. Even those that are adequately maintained will lose efficiency with age.
The older your Boiler gets, the more chance it can break down or develop a fault. Boiler breakdowns and faults are always inconvenient and can be expensive to repair. The money is better spent going on a New Boiler in many cases.
We install modern condensing Boilers, which offer incredible energy efficiency of 90-99%. Ensuring minimal fuel is wasted, heating water rather than going out of the flue.
Types Of Boiler Installation
Most Boiler installations we undertake in Leigh On Sea are straightforward Boiler replacements.
A Boiler replacement involves removing your old Boiler and fitting a newer, sometimes upgraded one in its place. Your new Boiler will work with your current central heating system.
If you require a different type of Boiler, we will make the necessary modification to your central heating system. For example, you may want your hot water cylinder and water tanks removed. Or you may want the latest smart controls and valves installed.
Whatever your requirements, we’ll ensure your fitted central heating system will work seamlessly with your new Boiler and any other upgrades you may choose.
If you have a brand new space such as an extension or new build home, we can fit you a new Boiler and central heating system for your new renovation.
Efficient Installation
Most Boiler installations are done with little disruption in a few hours. We will provide a time estimate during the survey, which will largely depend on the work you have done.
Our engineers are available for Boiler installations six days a week. You can book a timeslot on a convenient day.
Our engineers are highly experienced, Gas Safe Registered and fully insured. You’ll find them friendly, professional and tidy also.
