Types Of Boilers We Repair In Brentwood
Our engineers can repair any kind and make of boiler whether you have a combi, system or regular boiler. Powered by gas, LPG, oil or electricity, we have you covered whatever your situation.
Combi Boilers are generally very simple to repair as there are fewer components to deal with. System boilers use cylinders and, in some cases, water tanks. System Boiler repairs can at times be more technical. Some Brentwood homes still run off traditional Boiler systems. We sometimes come across old boilers in the older Brentwood homes, which are inefficient and prone to breakdown. Don’t worry, we more often than not get them back to full working order.

Common Boiler Faults
As the years go by, it is inevitable; your boiler will develop a fault and breakdown. Boilers are hard-working appliances with various parts that have to handle the heat and hot water, both corrosive elements that will wear out the internal components of your boiler. When a part fails, your boiler will stop working. Thankfully boilers have been designed so engineers can remove and change faulty parts to get your boiler working again.
Several boiler faults can occur. Here are some of them
Boiler Keeps Switching Off
The first thing to check when a boiler keeps switching off is the pressure. Sometimes repressurising the boiler can fix this, but if the pressure keeps dropping, there could be another fault such as a leak, blockage or a faulty pump.
Leaks generally occur within boilers when pump seals wear away, allowing water through, or a pressure valve fails (too much pressure can break pressure valves). Replacing seals and valves is a simple boiler repair job that’ll prevent further leaking and a pressure drop. Sometimes pipes can leak due to incorrect fitting around the joints and corrosion. Always get your boiler looked at by a gas engineer if you suspect a leak. Leaks can cause internal damage to your boiler and short-circuiting.
Blockages in your central heating system can prevent correct water flow resulting in low pressure, which will keep switching your boiler off. If an engineer suspects an obstruction, the blockage will be located and removed.
Boiler and central heating pumps must function adequately for the boiler to continue working. Sometimes pumps fail, slow down or become blocked. All pumps are thoroughly inspected and adjusted, repaired, changed as necessary.
Faulty Heat Exchanger
Blockages in the system are caused by limescale or debris that has come away from internal pipes/radiators. Sometimes, these blockages can prevent proper flow in the heat exchanger, which, consequently, overheat, emits loud noises and fails. A new heat exchanger is in order. If your boilers making loud noises get it seen before the heat exchanger or other parts of your boiler are damaged. Unusual sounds are always a sign of a fault somewhere that’ll eventually turn into a more serious problem if left alone.
Faulty Thermocouple
Does your pilot light keep blowing out? Then you may have a faulty thermocouple. This element regulates the flow of gas to your boiler, and if it’s not working, your boiler won’t function. Faulty Thermocouples are renewed if this isn’t the cause of the problem, then we check the gas supply.
Faulty Thermostats
A boiler needs a reliable thermostat to function correctly. If the thermostat stops working or is old and no longer accurate, your boiler won’t work. Faulty thermostats are changed.
Frozen Condensate Pipes
The condensate pipe’s used to expel wastewater from your boiler outside. The pipe should be sufficiently insulated to prevent freezing in winter. Uninsulated pipes can freeze, which will stop your boiler from working. Dealing with a frozen pipe is a simple boiler repair job that can be done quickly.
Radiators Not Getting Hot
If your radiators are not getting hot, then there’s probably excessive air in the system, which is removed by bleeding. After the bleed, if radiators are only getting hot at the top, then there’s a build-up of sludge in your system. The only way to remove sludge is with a power flush.
Look After Your Boiler To Prevent Breakdown
The best boiler repair is prevention. An annual boiler service will go a long way in preventing an inconvenient and unpleasant Boiler Breakdown. Servicing makes sure your boilers safe, ensures it runs efficiently, protects you from carbon monoxide poisoning and validates your home insurance against boiler failure.
Make sure your condensate pipe is adequately insulated. Insulation will prevent the pipe from freezing in the depths of winter.
Power flushing will remove all sludge and debris from your central heating system. Preventing any unnecessary wear and blockages in your boiler. A flush ensures the best possible heat output from your radiators also.
