Boiler Types
Boiler manufacturers offer three different types of Boilers to work with different kinds of central heating systems. These Boiler types include Combination, System and Regular.
What Type Of Boiler Is Best For Your Home?
System Boilers are rarely fitted in small properties with a single bathroom. Instead, they are commonly fitted in medium-sized to large homes with two or more bathrooms.
We usually fit combination boilers in small to medium and sometimes even large homes.
Regular Boilers are fitted into homes with an existing ‘regular system’ or large properties.
System Boilers
System Boilers are best for mid-sized to larger homes, with two or more bathrooms, typically 3-5 bedroom homes.
Whereas traditional regular boilers use gravity and water pressure provided by tanks, System Boilers utilise a single pressurised cylinder that provides decent hot water pressure throughout your home, better pressure than that of combination/regular boilers.
A system Boiler used in conjunction with a pressurised cylinder ensures there’s always enough water for everyone in the home and eliminates the need for bulky water tanks, freeing up loft space.
Water storage cylinders are fitted with immersion heaters that act as a backup if the Boiler ever fails, you may be without heating for a while (until you get your Boiler repaired), but all is not lost. You will still have hot water.
System Boilers are nearly always the best option for medium to larger homes. We have fitted lots in the Benfleet area.
Homes with older regular Boilers can have their existing central heating system converted to accept a new system Boiler. Streamlining your system removes the need for feed and expansion tanks, creating storage space in the process.
Combination Boilers
Combination Boilers do everything from a single unit, heating water fed from the mains supply and distributing it to your hot taps, shower and radiators.
An instant heating element is built-in. As soon as the hot tap’s switched on, cold water is heated as it flows through the element.
Combination boilers don’t require a cylinder, water tanks, external pump or motorised valves, the most straightforward and smallest central heating systems, which are quick and easy to install and work on.
Combination Boilers are ideal for smaller one and two-bedroom homes. Larger versions can also be installed in bigger homes, although combi boilers are not suitable for supplying multiple bathrooms simultaneously.
Combi Boilers work off mains pressure, so your hot water pressure will be the same, which is good if your home has decent water pressure, to begin with, not so good if you have poor water pressure.
There’s no backup hot water supply if a combination Boiler fails, something which a pressurised/unpressurised cylinder used with system/regular boilers can provide.
Combination Boilers are incredibly efficient. You only ever heat the hot water you use. They account for over 50% of Boilers fitted in the Benfleet area.
Regular Boilers
Regular Boilers (AKA Traditioanl Boiles) utilise an unpressurised storage cylinder and are fed by external water tanks, working off gravity.
Regular Boilers are often found in older homes. Therefore, we regularly remove old regular Boilers and fit new ones in their place to work with the existing tanks, cylinder and pump.
Alternatively, we can replace your old regular Boiler with a modern system boiler and pressurised cylinder for more efficient and simple central heating.
While new Regular Boiler installations are not the norm these days (as modern combi/system boilers do a better job in most situations), Regular Boilers are very good at supplying multiple bathrooms.
The nature of Regular Boiler powered central heating ensures there’s always enough hot water for every bathroom.
Regular Boilers are a solid choice for larger homes of 5 bedrooms or more with three or more bathrooms.
Boiler Sizes
System, Combination and Regular Boilers come in a range of sizes to serve different home sizes.
Boilers range in size from 24 kW to 40 kW. The size you need depends on the number of radiators and bathrooms.
The smaller boilers will supply up to 10 radiators and a single bathroom, while the largest will handle over 20 radiators and 3+ bathrooms.
It’s imperative you’ve got the correct boiler size for your home, too small and your Boiler won’t cope, and you won’t have enough hot water, too big, and you’ll waste money on the installation and the day to day running of the Boiler.
Boiler Fuel Types
Most Boilers fitted run off Gas which is prevalent throughout Benfleet. For those who don’t have Gas, Boilers can run on electricity, oil and LPG.
Is It Time To Upgrade Your Boiler?
If your Boiler is over ten years old, then it’s time to consider upgrading.
Boilers become less efficient as they age, consuming more and more fuel to heat the same amount of water. As a result, old Boilers can waste 45% of energy, which is a massive waste of money over a year.
Modern condensing Boilers run at between 90-99% efficiency. In addition, they capture and reuse expelled heat, meaning little fuel is wasted.
Older Boilers are also prone to breaking down, which can get costly when forking out for Boiler repairs. The money could be better spent being put towards a new Boiler.
New Boiler Installation Or Straightforward Replacement
We do brand new Boiler, central heating installs, and simple replacements.
If you have built a new home or had a major renovation such as an extension, we can fit a brand new Boiler and system to heat your new space. Alternatively, we can add to your existing system and run radiators hot water into your newly created rooms.
Old Boiler replacements are much more straightforward. We remove your old Boiler and install a new one in its place. The process is swift and can take as little as four hours (depends on your system and existing Boiler)
