Underfloor Heating Benefits
All homes need Heating, and Underfloor Heating is the best overall system that any home can have. Here’s why.
- All pipework/heating coils are hidden under the floor, out of sight, out of the way, so they can’t be damaged.
- Heat distribution is even throughout the whole space, with no warm and cold areas, unlike conventional Heating.
- Underfloor Heating systems are efficient and consume less energy than conventional radiator central heating systems.
- Underfloor Heating is well insulated. The insulation around the pipes/coils stays warm for many hours, even after switching off the heat. This contributes to better energy efficiency.
- Underfloor heating systems use lower energy, so they are better for the environment than conventional Underfloor Heating systems.
- Radiators are no longer required, which frees up wall space.
- Underfloor Heating is maintenance-free mainly, and the working parts are easy to replace if necessary.
- An Underfloor Heating system will last 35+ years.
- Underfloor Heating is sought after and will add value to your home and make it easier to sell.
- Everyone loves a warm floor, especially in the colder months.
Underfloor Heating Considerations
Choosing between a wet and electric system will depend on your central heating system, the space being fitted and your budget.
Generally, electric systems are the cheapest to install, while wet systems are more expensive and time-consuming to install but the most affordable to run.
Underfloor Heating will work with all types of flooring. Pipes & Coils can be set into a screed, fitted on the the existing floor, or placed between floorboards.
Most Underfloor Heating includes a form of insulation such as screed, tiles or aluminium plates.
Underfloor Heating can take a few hours to warm up depending on your system and the insulation used, but once warm will stay warm for many hours.
Underfloor Heating systems take longer to heat a room than traditional radiators but heat the room more consistently using less energy.
Underfloor Heating installation can be disruptive, but once fitted will give you years of trouble-free, reliable and efficient service.
Underfloor Heating can be used with any type of control ranging from the traditional thermostat, modern digital controls or the latest in smart controls.
Smart controls allow you to set and time the temperature of your whole system and even on a room by room basis from an app.
Underfloor Heating Servicing
Underfloor Heating is a simple, essentially maintenance-free system.
Electric Underfloor Heating connects to your main’s electricity supply and should never need maintenance.
Wet Underfloor Heating is connected to your central heating system and Boiler, utilises some moving parts (the pump and motorised valves) and deals with running water, so an annual inspection is recommended.
Underfloor Heating inspection servicing is quick and straightforward. The pump and valves are tested for correct function.
Seals and washers are checked for tightness. Worn seals and washers are replaced if necessary.
Underfloor Heating systems older than five years may have a build-up of debris in the pipes.
Central heating system debris such as limescale, rust and oil collects in pipes and radiators.
The debris can build up over time, rendering heating systems less effective with lower energy efficiency.
There’s a simple cure, Powerflushing, the process of pumping chemicals through heating pipes until they are clear and fully functioning again.
Underfloor Heating Repairs
Electric Underfloor Heating systems should never need repairing. However, pumps and valves on wet Underfloor Heating systems may fail and need replacing after 10-15 years.
Underfloor Heating systems’ essential components are located above ground, so they are simple to replace if a fault ever occurs.
Manifolds, pumps and valves are removed with new ones put in their place.
If you’re experiencing cold spots on your floor, we can quickly rectify the issue. You may have an airlock which we can remove or a build-up of debris which we can remove with power flushing.
Alternatively, your pump may have seen better days and needs replacing/upgrading.
Leaking pipes are rare with underfloor heating systems as they are tough to damage. They do, however, occur from time to time. Either a leak has sprung, or the pipes have been punctured.
One of our engineers will quickly identify the leak’s location with the use of a thermal imaging camera. Then, leaking pipes can be accessed and repaired.
Our engineers can fix any Underfloor Heating issue at very reasonable prices.
