Alex was polite, friendly & efficient when he came to service the boiler.
When we needed a new boiler, TM Hughes supplied and fitted it promptly and efficiently. The heating/hot water system was checked thoroughly after installation, including existing radiators, and the kitchen cleared and tidied afterwards. I have used this company for a number of years for boiler and hot water cylinder checks and maintenance, and can recommend them to others.

Replaced my Nest thermostat as Google stopped the app for the learning 3 and T M Hughes replaced it with the latest Hive Thermostat very pleased with the service and how quickly they installed it thanks

Second boiler service carried out by TM Hughes. One this October and one in October 2024. Both times the engineer has been professional, friendly and competent.
TM Hughes have always been reliable and helpful with various jobs in my home, including moving a boiler to the other side of the room. Would highly recommend.
It only took one phone call, no messing around the technician was at my house spot on time. Didn't take long to spot the broken part and placed an order and it's due sometime next week. Everything was placed back left no mess.Very pleased with the service.
Used Alex from TM Hughes to remedy a fault with my hot water cylinder. Two visits required were prompt, on time and the fault effectively rectified. I'll hopefully use Alex for future work and servicing on my hot water installation.

My boiler service was carried out at short notice as i was moving out - the engineer was on time, polite and completed the works quickly - also supplying my with email versions of the reports which are useful in the house selling process.
TM Hughes & Son were very responsive coming out quickly to assess our boiler when it stopped working and advised us on a replacement boiler as it would have been too expensive to repair. James came round within the week to replace the boiler. He was polite, answered all our questions, gave good advice and completed the job efficiently and well and we thankfully have heating again. Would recommend.

Can't speak highly enough of Terry & his staff. Terry gave a very competitive quote for the work needed & fully informed me of what was involved. He was more than happy to answer any questions i had regarding the job, which was very helpful. Alex installed my new boiler, i was impressed with his time keeping & he worked non stop all day long. He also cleaned up as he went along. The quality of his work is excellent i am very impressed, its great to have peace of mind that you have a plumbing company like this that you can call on if & when needed. I would definitely recommend them.

Absolutely first class service, although he was very busy he still found a bit of time to take a look and see why we had no heating or hot water. I thought that this level of customer service died out a long time ago but totally impressed by the "above and beyond" dedication that was shown to try and help us. Making an effort to fit us in at short notice and working on a Saturday to install a new one so that we weren’t long without hot water / heating. Great service and nice guys! I had a complex underfloor heating issue. They came out and assessed it. A week later came with all the parts and fixed it. Gave some great advice on how to maintain the system and made some cost saving recommendations. Definitely would use them again.

TM Hughes & Son is a family-run business with 30+ years of experience. Our Gas Safe Registered engineers offer a Gas Cooker Installation & Disconnection service to the residents of Basildon.
Despite the recent technological advances in Electric cookers in recent years, Gas Cookers remain a popular option. Nothing beats the ‘cooked over gas’ taste, and many like the instant heat and accurate heat distribution gas offers.
Gas appliances should be disconnected and installed by qualified Gas engineers who are well versed in plumbing and heating. Improper installation can lead to gas leaks which can be fatal. Using a certified engineer, you know your installations safe and on the right side of the law.
Most cooker warranties, household and landlord insurance policies are only valid if the installations been carried out by a Gas Safe Registered engineer.
Be safe, never attempt to fit a gas cooker by yourself, our prices are very reasonable, and we’ll do the job properly. Hobs and cookers are always fitted safely to the highest standards.

The Installation
We follow strict procedure when installing gas cookers. Give us a call or use our contact form so we can establish your requirements, give you a quote and arrange a time to visit.
An engineer will arrive at the agreed time and analyse your kitchen for safety, taking note of the gas line power points, switches, smoke alarms and combustible materials that may cause issues.
Gas Cookers need clearance to operate safely. The area above the hob is called the hot zone.
The hot zone must be clear of obstructions and combustible materials, such as
- Kitchen Units
- Sockets/Switches
- Shelves
- Cable/Trunking
- Boilers
- Smoke Alarms
A clear area of 750mm above the hob and at least 50mm (ideally more) on each side of the hob, anything placed within this area is a fire risk.
New cookers need to be within 1.5 meters of the gas connection. In the event your gas lines further away, our engineers can usually rectify this on the day.
Once we’re satisfied with the areas safe and suitable for the installation, the gas supply is switched off.
Your old cookers disconnected and pulled out of the space.
The connections checked to ensure it’s suitable for your new cooker. Sometimes it’s necessary to fit a new connection for a tight and safe fitting, something our engineers can do.
Your new cookers connected to the gas supply, the gas supply reinstated.
The connections checked and tested for leaks.
The cookers switched on and tested to ensure everything working properly
A gas appliance installation certificates written before the engineer tidy’s up and leaves
