TM Hughes & Son undertake Power Flushing in Romford.
Power Flushing removes sludge, limescale and other debris from your central heating system.
Sludge and debris make your Boiler work harder while preventing your radiators from heating entirely. As a result, more energy is consumed, and your heating is less satisfying, expensive, ineffective and unnecessary.
Power Flushing restores your central heating system to a ‘like new’ state, so you benefit from
- Improved energy effienceny
- Reduced fuel bills
- Full radiator heat output
- Less wear and tear on your Boiler
Does Your System Need Power Flushing?
Use the following points to determine if your central heating system needs Power Flushing.
Bleed Your Radiators
Before running any of the following tests, bleed your radiators and ensure none have air in.
Water Colour
When you bleed your radiators, examine the water colour. If the water’s white or grey, all is ok. If the waters are brown or black, your system may need Power Flushing.
Slow Heating Radiators
Radiators heat quickly when the central heating system is clean. Open up your radiator valves or set them to the highest setting if they are thermostatic, switch the heating on and monitor how long they take to get hot. If it’s more than 20 minutes, your system may need Power Flushing.
Coldness In Bottom Of Radiators
If any of your radiators are cold at the bottom, then there’s likely a build-up of sludge that accumulates at the bottom and gradually increases over time. Severe sludge can prevent radiators from getting hot in the middle and even the whole radiator. (faulty valves will prevent the radiator heating, so these need checking also)
Low Pressure
Badly sludged central heating systems can cause sub-optimal pressure, which in turn keeps switching your Boiler off. If your Boiler continuously switches off or won’t maintain pressure, the sludge that needs removing is possible. (We would check the Boiler first, though, as it could have a leak or blockage).
Radiator Leaks
Do any of your radiators have pinhole leaks? If so, they are badly corroded and will need replacing. Your system will likely need Power Flushing also.
New Boiler Installation
You will need a Power Flush before a new Boiler Installation. Boiler manufacturers state that systems need Powerflushing before the Boiler is installed. Otherwise, the warranty isn’t valid.
Your System Hasn’t Been Flushed In 5 Years+
Central heating systems should be Power Flushed every five years to ensure they remain clean and run correctly. If your system hasn’t been Power Flushed in the past five years, it’s time you had one.
How Power Flushing Works
Power Flushing involves pumping a chemical and water mix through your central heating system at high pressure. The mixture circulates, cleansing the pipes, radiators, boilers, valves and pumps of sludge.
Sludge is a term used by Plumbers and Heating engineers. It’s silt-like, a mixture of broken down limescale, rust, oil and other debris produced by central heating systems.
The first step is to contact us and get a free no-obligation quote. The cost will depend on the size and condition of your central heating system.
If you’re happy with the quote, book a convenient time and date for us to undertake the Power Flush, they are usually completed in a few hours.
An engineer will arrive at your booked time and date and undertake a quick inspection of your central heating system, ensuring everything is tight and can withstand the high pressure of Power Flushing.
Don’t worry. The procedure won’t damage your pipes or any of the components of the central heating system. The pressure is high enough to remove the sludge but not so high that pipes and connections cannot withstand the pressure and burst.
A Kamco machine is attached to your central heating system. Kamco machines are the UK industry standard for Power Flushing. We use Kamco chemicals also.
The Power Flushing machine is switched on. Water circulates the system, gradually dislodging and removing the sludge.
The sludge returns to the machine, filtered out and collected in bottles. The engineer removes all bottles of dirty sludge-filled water at the end of the procedure.
The machine is kept running and refilled with fresh water and chemicals. The process is continued until all the sludge is removed and the water runs clear.
Once your system is thoroughly cleansed, the machine is disconnected, and a rust inhibitor is added to the clean water. The rust inhibitor will help prevent sludge from building up again.
The engineer will switch your central heating system on to demonstrate how quickly your radiators heat now the system is clear.
You will enjoy a warm home and fast heating central heating system following Power Flushing, and if you have had a new Boiler fitted, you can rest assured it’s protected from sludge and has a valid warranty.
