The Benefits Of Underfloor Heating Systems

Underfloor Heating Systems offer many benefits over traditional central heating systems.

Once Underfloor Heating is installed, there’s no need for radiators, so they are removed. The room looks bigger and better there’s also more wall space for furniture, units, shelving etc.

Underfloor Heating pipes and coils (pipes for wet and electric systems) run under the floor. They are not exposed, so they cannot be seen or touched. Underfloor pipes & coils are near impossible to damage and will last decades. The pipes are thought to last up to a century.

All the working parts of an Underfloor Heating system are above ground and take up little space. A wet system requires a manifold (which distributes hot water and heat to each room), valves and a pump to circulate the water. A neat little system that’s fitted in a discreet cupboard. These parts are easy to reach and replace if necessary.

The pipes and coils under the floor are fitted with solid insulation throughout. Once warm, the insulation omits heat for many hours and uses less energy to heat a room than conventional Heating. A cheaper, more energy-efficient method of heating your home, you should also enjoy reduced fuel bills.

Underfloor Heating systems heat each room across the entire surface area. In contrast, radiators distribute heat from a single area from the wall. As a result, heat rises equally throughout the room and is consistent throughout. As a result, the floors feel pleasantly warm underfoot also.

Underfloor Heating can be fitted in any type of home, age and size. Systems are incredibly versatile, with many solutions available to fit every situation.

Underfloor Heating is an attractive feature to homebuyers, so it should add some value to your home while making it easier to sell.

Underfloor Heating Installation

When having an Underfloor Heating Installation, the first step is the free survey and no-obligation quote undertaken by an experienced heating engineer.

Every home is different with varying sizes, floors, flooring and existing heating system. Also, everyone has additional requirements. For example, some want a single room underfloor heated, while others will want their whole home fitted.

If you have a Boiler powered central heating system, you can install wet Underfloor Heating.

Wet Underfloor Heating uses water heated by your Boiler. Hot water is drawn to the manifold and distributed throughout each room as the hot water flows through the underfloor pipes, the insulation heats and warms the room.

Underfloor Pipes can be fitted into new floors that are screeded, on top of existing floors or between the joists of floorboards. Once fitted, it will work with any type of flooring such as wood, carpet and tiles.

Wet Underfloor Heating is cheaper to run than electric underfloor Heating. Still, installing is generally more expensive, requiring more of an outlay. However, the improved energy efficiency will pay for itself over time.

The system is controlled by a thermostat and your central heating controls, so you can program it to come on when you need it. In addition, we can fit zone controls so you can control each room’s heat individually.

Electric Underfloor Heating uses coils powered by electricity. Like a wet system, the coils are insulated and are effective at heating rooms.

Electric systems are available in various options, such as coils on screeded mats, under floor mats placed beneath flooring and loose cable, which is better for small areas.

It’s best to install Electric Underfloor Heating when a wet central heating system isn’t present or only a small installation is required, such as a single room.

Installing an Electric Underfloor is faster and cheaper than installing a wet system, although Electric systems cost more to run.

One of our engineers will determine the best type of system for your home during the free no-obligation survey and quote.

Underfloor Heating Service & Repairs

Underfloor Heating systems should be serviced annually. The process is quick and straightforward. An engineer accesses the above-ground working components and undertakes checks.

The seals are checked for tightness, and the manifold, valves and pump are checked and tested to ensure they are working correctly and adjusted if necessary.

Many of our customers have their Underfloor Heating serviced when we do their Boilers and Cylinder servicing.

Underfloor Heating systems rarely need repairs. The first thing to fail is usually the pump and motorised valves, which may need replacing every decade or so.

These parts are quickly removed and replaced to get your Underfloor Heating up and running at full capacity again.

Airlocks are another issue that can occur on Underfloor Heating systems. You’ll notice an airlock if you have cold spots on your floor. Our engineers can swiftly remove airlocks.

We also Power Flush Underfloor Heating systems. After a few years of use, systems can accumulate ‘sludge’, preventing full heat output. A Powerflush removes the sludge restoring your Underfloor Heating system to full capacity.

Underfloor leaks are rare, but if you are unlucky enough to experience one, we can locate the leak instantly with a thermal imaging camera. We’ll then get to the pipe and repair it.
