TM Hughes & Son Gas Services Ltd offer Powerflushing in South Woodham Ferrers.
We are a locally based company with over 30 years of experience. Experienced Gas Safe Registered engineers undertake all Powerflushing.
Powerflushing Removes Sludge
Powerflushing fully cleanses your central heating system of a mud type substance called sludge.
Sludge is a mix of broken down limescale, rust, oil and other debris in central heating systems.
The sludge builds up in your pipes and radiators, restricting the flow of hot water.
Your Boiler and pump have to work harder to provide your heating, resulting in increased wear and tear.
Your radiators are less effective. Some won’t heat all over. Others may heat up but not at full capacity.
More energy is consumed to heat your home, and as the radiators are not running at full heat output, your home is not as warm as it should be.
Your central heating system costs more to run as a result, and you’re more likely to experience Boiler issues.
Bad news for your Boiler, central heating system, environment, and pocket.
Does Your Central Heating System Need Powerflushing?
Power flushing is recommended every five years; if you have never had a Powerflush or haven’t had one in the past five years, you should consider the procedure.
Powerflushing should always take place before the fitting of a Boiler. This ensures no debris such as limescale can damage your new Boiler.
Limescale blocking Boiler heat exchangers is a prime cause of Boiler Breakdown and can create expensive damage.
Also, most Boiler manufacturers demand a Powerflush before fitting as a warranty condition.
Always Have A Powerflush Before Fitting A New Boiler.
If you feel your radiators don’t get as hot as they used to, it could be backed up with sludge.
Bleed all the radiators with a radiator key. Start with the highest radiators in your home.
When you bleed, your radiators use a towel to catch the expelled water. But, first, take a note of the water’s colour.
Clear and greywater is ok. However, if any radiators expel brown or black water, your system should be Powerflushed.
Once all your radiators are bled, switch on your central heating system. Your system should heat fully within half an hour. Any longer, and that’s a sign there’s sludge in your system.
Next, go to all the radiators and feel each one. If any radiators are cold at the bottom while being hot at the middle or top, that’s a sure sign of sludge in the system.
Several backed up radiators may only get hot at the top or not at all (barring a radiator valve issue)
How Powerflushing Works
Once you have determined you need a Powerflush, you first need to book an appointment.
Powerflushing is available Monday to Saturday. We generally start the procedure in the morning or early afternoon as it can take a few hours (depending on how bad the system is backed up)
Contact us, and we’ll give you a price over the phone or in an email or message. Next, book a convenient time for yourself.
Our engineer will arrive at your property at your booked time and date.
After a quick inspection of your system, a Kamco machine is connected to your central heating system.
Kamco is the industry standard Powerflushing machine favoured by professional gas engineers. We use Kamco chemicals also.
The machine pumps chemicals through your central heating system at high pressure.
As the water and chemicals flow through the pipes, radiators, pumps and Boilers, the sludge is dislodged and broken down into fine particles.
The particles are filtered out by the machine and removed. The dirty water is filled into bottles. The engineer takes the bottles at the end of the Powerflush.
The machine is left on and refilled with water and chemicals for as long as necessary. The water in your system gradually shows clearer and clearer until all the sludge and debris are removed.
Your system is completely clean once our engineer is satisfied there’s no sludge remaining. Then, it’s refilled with clean water and a corrosion inhibitor.
The corrosion inhibitor will help prevent the build-up of sludge and debris again in the future.
Our engineer will switch on your central heating system and make sure all radiators are bled, and the system is balanced properly. The engineer may offer recommendations, so you get more from your central heating system. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Following the Power Flush, our engineer will remove all the wastewater and tidy up after himself, leaving the work area as found.
You’ll notice your radiators now heat quickly and feel hotter all over with no cold spots.
You’ll now enjoy a warmer home and should see an improvement in your energy bills.
