Boiler Faults

As Boilers age, they can and do develop faults. But, usually, all that’s required is an adjustment inside the Boiler or replacement parts.

Continuous Switching Off

If your Boiler keeps switching off, you may have an issue with low pressure. The first step is to repressurise your Boiler (you can do this yourself).

After repressurising, run your Boiler and see what happens. If the pressure continues to drop and your Boiler switches off again, then there’s a blockage, leak or faulty pump.

An engineer will inspect your Boiler and run tests. Leaking seals can be replaced and tightened, while blockages can be located and removed. A faulty pump is unblocked, repaired or replaced.

Pilot Light Keeps Going Out

If your pilot keeps blowing out and stopping your Boiler, then we will inspect the thermocouple, which has probably failed.

The thermocouple is a safety device that regulates the gas flow. When they age and start malfunctioning, they’ll prevent the Boiler from working correctly.

A thermocouple replacement will get your Boiler back working again.

Boiling Kettle/Whistling Noise

If your Boiler is making a whistling noise similar to a boiling kettle, then your heat exchanger is blocked with limescale.

Switch your Boiler off and contact us immediately. This is an urgent issue that can cause your Boiler to overheat and break the heat exchanger (an expensive repair)

Old Thermostat?

A broken/malfunctioning thermostat will prevent your Boiler from working correctly. If we can’t find any issues with the Boiler itself, we’ll check the thermostat and replace it if necessary.

Frozen Condensate Pipes

Condensate Pipes remove all the wastewater created by your condensing Boiler. However, in freezing weather, these pipes can freeze and prevent your Boiler from running.

Defrosting the pipe will get your Boiler working again. We’ll also insulate the pipe, so this problem doesn’t occur again in the future.

Radiators Don’t Heat

If your radiators don’t heat even when the Boiler’s running, you may have excess air in the system that needs bleeding.

Other causes are faulty radiator valves which can be adjusted or replaced, or your systems clogged with ‘sludge’ which will prevent your radiators from heating up.

In this instance Power, Flushing is the remedy, a procedure that’ll remove the sludge in your system and restore it to complete working order.
