When To Service Your Gas Fire

Ideally, Gas Fires should be serviced annually to ensure good energy efficiency and safety.

The working parts of a gas fire gather dirt and dust, which reduces the energy efficiency costing more to run.

If your fire gets smokey or has become difficult to light, service is due. Also, if you notice any soot stains on your fire, you should have it checked ASAP. Soot is an indication of carbon monoxide.

Gas Fires are a potential carbon monoxide risk. So they should be checked by a Gas Safe Engineer once a year.

Otherwise, if your Gas Fire hasn’t been maintained within the last 12 months, it’s time to book a service.

The Gas Fire Service

Gas Fire servicing is a quick and painless process. First of all, contact us and book the time and date you want an engineer to visit.

All our engineers are Gas Safe Registered and fully insured with lots of experience servicing gas fires.

On arrival, the engineer will show you his Gas Safe ID and lay dust sheets in the work area around the fire to ensure your carpets/flooring remain clean throughout the service.

The fire assembly is removed and cleaned. The engineer will then move onto the burner unit, pipes, catalysts, inline restrictor and pilot assembly.

Once all the parts are cleaned, the fire is put back together and switched on.

The gas pressure is tested and adjusted if necessary. The flue/chimney is tested to ensure all exhaust gasses are removed properly. The engineer will also test for leaking gas.

Once the service is complete, the engineer will tidy up, write you a service record and take payment before leaving.

Keep hold of your service record. The fire manufacturer or your home insurance may ask to see the document if you make a warranty or breakdown claim related to your fire.
