Alex was polite, friendly & efficient when he came to service the boiler.
When we needed a new boiler, TM Hughes supplied and fitted it promptly and efficiently. The heating/hot water system was checked thoroughly after installation, including existing radiators, and the kitchen cleared and tidied afterwards. I have used this company for a number of years for boiler and hot water cylinder checks and maintenance, and can recommend them to others.

Replaced my Nest thermostat as Google stopped the app for the learning 3 and T M Hughes replaced it with the latest Hive Thermostat very pleased with the service and how quickly they installed it thanks

Second boiler service carried out by TM Hughes. One this October and one in October 2024. Both times the engineer has been professional, friendly and competent.

It only took one phone call, no messing around the technician was at my house spot on time. Didn't take long to spot the broken part and placed an order and it's due sometime next week. Everything was placed back left no mess.Very pleased with the service.

My boiler service was carried out at short notice as i was moving out - the engineer was on time, polite and completed the works quickly - also supplying my with email versions of the reports which are useful in the house selling process.
TM Hughes & Son were very responsive coming out quickly to assess our boiler when it stopped working and advised us on a replacement boiler as it would have been too expensive to repair. James came round within the week to replace the boiler. He was polite, answered all our questions, gave good advice and completed the job efficiently and well and we thankfully have heating again. Can't speak highly enough of Terry & his staff. Terry gave a very competitive quote for the work needed & fully informed me of what was involved. He was more than happy to answer any questions i had regarding the job, which was very helpful. Alex installed my new boiler, i was impressed with his time keeping & he worked non stop all day long. He also cleaned up as he went along. The quality of his work is excellent i am very impressed, its great to have peace of mind that you have a plumbing company like this that you can call on if & when needed. Absolutely first class service, although he was very busy he still found a bit of time to take a look and see why we had no heating or hot water. I thought that this level of customer service died out a long time ago but totally impressed by the "above and beyond" dedication that was shown to try and help us. Making an effort to fit us in at short notice and working on a Saturday to install a new one so that we weren’t long without hot water / heating. Great service and nice guys! I had a complex underfloor heating issue. They came out and assessed it. A week later came with all the parts and fixed it. Gave some great advice on how to maintain the system and made some cost saving recommendations. Definitely would use them again.

Detecting leaks in plumbing systems and underground water pipes is approached using different methods (depending on the situation), each with its techniques and tools.
Here are four methods our plumbers use to locate a hidden leak.
- Visual Inspection: This is often the first step in leak detection. A plumber will look for obvious signs of leaks, such as water stains, mould, or mildew on walls, ceilings, and floors. They’ll also check for puddles or dripping water in areas where pipes run. Visual inspection is effective for surface leaks but may not detect leaks hidden within walls or under floors.
- Thermal Imaging: This method uses an infrared camera to detect temperature variations in walls and floors. Water leaks typically cause a temperature change, which the thermal imaging camera can detect. This method is non-invasive and can quickly pinpoint the area of a leak without the need for physical exploration of walls or floors. It’s particularly useful for detecting hidden leaks in places that are not easily accessible.
- Leak Detection Machine: These devices use sound technology to detect the sound of water escaping from pipes. Since leaks create a distinctive noise as water flows out under pressure, acoustic leak detectors pinpoint their location. Machines can also measure the water pressure in pipes to identify where a loss of pressure occurs, suggesting a leak. This method is highly effective for detecting leaks in underground pipes or within walls, where visual and thermal methods could be more practical.
- Pressure Testing: This technique involves altering the pressure in the plumbing system to detect leaks. A plumber will typically shut off the main water supply and then use a pressure gauge to monitor the system’s pressure. If there’s a leak, the pressure will drop over time. The plumber may also pump air or water into the system to increase the pressure, making it easier to identify where the pressure drops occur. This method is useful for finding leaks in systems where water is not visibly present, and sound-based detection is impractical.
Each method has its strengths, and often, our plumbers will use a combination of these techniques to locate and fix leaks accurately.
The choice of method depends on the plumbing system’s nature, the leak’s suspected location, and disruption to the property.
