Bathroom Installation Planning
We plan the bathroom installation carefully. Fitting will happen within a specific timeframe, ensuring little disruption to your home while we work. Your finished bathroom will look amazing and perform well every day for many years after the installation.
Designing & Building Your Bathroom
When designing and building your bathroom, we split everything into three parts:
- Plumbing, Electrical & Heating
- Flooring & Walls
- Fixtures & Fittings
Plumbing, Electrical & Heating
The correct plumbing pipes and electrical cables must all be in place before laying the flooring and covering the walls.
Plumbing
The plumbing pipes will serve your bath, basin, toilet, and shower, while the waste pipes will take the wastewater away.
Electrical
The correct electrical cables need to be in place to power your lights, shaver sockets, and electric shower (if you have one).
Heating
Depending on the heating system, central heating pipes need to be in place to serve your radiator, underfloor heating, or both. All pipes and cables are fitted and hidden under the floorboards and walls. They are tested for correct function before the bathroom is installed.
Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating is often featured in the bathrooms we fit. A warm bathroom floor is a highly desirable luxury and a very efficient method of heating. Underfloor heating pipes are run between the floorboard joists or set into a new floor.
The pipes are heated with the hot water produced by your boiler. Alternatively, we can fit electric underfloor heating coils. They are quicker to fit and cheaper than ‘wet’ systems.
Flooring & Wall Materials
The flooring and wall materials must be durable, easy to clean, and water-resistant. The walls in the shower and bath areas must also be waterproof.
Bathroom Walls
Tiles are the most popular material for covering bathroom walls. Most bathrooms are partially tiled; some are even fully tiled.
Tile Options
Bathroom wall tiles are made from ceramic, glass, and even slate. They are available in various sizes, shapes, and textures in thousands of designs and colours.
The endless amount of tiles available allows us to create a bathroom of any design and look. Our expert bathroom fitters fit tiling precisely. They can fit tiles in any pattern: grid, diagonal, offset, chevron, herringbone, etc.
Bathroom Panels
Bathroom panels come in various lengths. They cover the whole bathroom or the area around your bath and shower. They are also available in many designs and colours to suit any bathroom design.
The panels are 100% waterproof. They come in various thicknesses and materials, such as PVC, laminate, and acrylic. Panels are significantly quicker to fit than bathroom tiles and create a different look as there are no grout lines.
Wood Panelling
Wood paneling suits some bathroom designs. It works well with traditional, coastal, and country styles. If fitted, all wood is treated and coated in water-resistant paint.
Paint
All remaining areas of the bathroom walls that are not covered with tiles, panels, or wood are painted. Bathroom paint is moisture—and water-resistant and available in many colours.
Bathroom Flooring
Bathroom flooring must handle daily water and moisture. It must also look good and match the bathroom’s design.
Floor Tiles
Floor tiles are the most commonly fitted flooring material. Tiles always look good on the bathroom floor and are available in various sizes and shapes in endless colours and designs. Floor tiles are mainly made from porcelain, which is more durable than ceramic and tough to crack.
Glass and slate are alternative floor tiles. Floor tiles can be laid in various patterns, from simple patterns such as grid-style to more complex patterns such as modular. Floor tiles come in various textures.
Some tiles are more grippy on the floor than others. Grippiness needs to be considered depending on who’s using the bathroom. Small mosaic styles are naturally grippier as there are more grout lines.
Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl is a cheaper alternative to tiles. Vinyl is available in many patterns and colours, is easy to lay, and is highly durable. Vinyl comes in packs of tiles or on a roll.
Treated Concrete Flooring
Treated concrete has excellent water-resistant properties and suits many styles of modern bathrooms. However, the concrete must be periodically treated to ensure it remains water-resistant.
Rubber Flooring
Some bathrooms require soft, non-slip floors, specifically those used by older people. We can fit rubber flooring in these bathrooms. It’s soft, grippy, and easy to clean.
Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring can resist water, and it suits some bathroom designs. But it’s generally not recommended. You still have to be careful when using it, and you may experience issues if the floor gets too wet.
Fixtures & Fittings
Once your bathroom flooring and walls are sorted, we will install the fixtures and fittings.
Bathroom Suite
The main fixtures are your bathroom suite, which includes a bath, toilet, basin, taps and a shower enclosure in some bathrooms. All components of a bathroom suite are matching, so they look the same in a range of modern or traditional styles.
Bath Options
Baths and shower enclosures are available in various lengths and widths to suit the available spaces in all bathrooms.
Toilet & Basin Options
Toilets and basins are available in a range of sizes, heights, and types to suit any bathroom style and design. For example, a traditional bathroom will likely include a rounded suite. It will also have a freestanding bath and a high cistern toilet.
A modern bathroom could include a sharp-edged fitted bath with a panel and a wall-hung sink and toilet for a minimal look. Whatever style of bathroom design you choose, there’s a suite to complement it.
Shower Options
Showers are fitted in enclosures or over the bath, depending on the type and size of the bathroom you have. We fit all types of showers, including electric, digital, eco, mixer, thermostatic, power, and the latest smart showers. All suites are fitted with taps. Again many options are available in pillar, monobloc or mixer, with many traditional and modern designs.
Finishing Touches
Once your suite’s in place, installing the finishing touches is next.Storage will be taken into consideration and fitted in the available spaces. For example, units with built-in drawers and cupboards are available to work with toilets and basins. Freestanding cupboards, shelves, and vanity units can be fitted also.
Bathroom lights are built to withstand water and moisture. We’ll ensure the best coloured and the correct strength bulbs are installed to enhance the look and feel of your bathroom.
All bathrooms fitted by TM Hughes are built to last. So once your bathrooms are finished, you’ll enjoy them for many years.
