The Best Boiler For Your Home
Every home is different, and every homeowner has their individual heating and hot water needs.
The right Boiler must be fitted for your property.
The Boiler needs to be up to the job to adequately serve your bathrooms and hot water taps.
The Boiler must not be too big or powerful. An oversized Boiler will cost you more to buy and install and likely waste precious fuel, costing more to run.
A free survey undertaken by one of our engineers will determine the best Boiler for your home.
Our engineer will take into account…
- The size of your home
- The number of people living in your home
- The number of radiators in your home
- The number of bathrooms in your home
- Your heating and hot water usage
- Your current central heating system
These factors determine the best type, size, and Boiler for your home. We’ll then write you a free no-obligation quote to fit your new Boiler.
Combination, System & Regular Boilers
Boilers for the domestic household are available in three different types Combination, System and Regular.
Combination Boilers
‘Combi’ Boilers are the most common type of Boilers we fit in the South Woodham Ferrers area, accounting for over 50% of all installations.
Combination Boilers are excellent for small to medium-sized properties. Combination Boilers are compact units that require no external components such as tanks, cylinders and pumps.
Water is heated by the Boiler and distributed through pipes direct to the hot taps and radiators. Combination Boilers are straightforward to install and swifter than when installing a system or regular Boilers.
Combination Boilers are the best for space-saving as no loft or cupboard space is required for tanks or cylinders.
The only real disadvantage with Combination Boilers is there’s no backup hot water option, a feature shared with Boilers that include hot water storage cylinders. Unfortunately, no backup means you’ll be without hot water for a while if the Boiler breaks down.
Also, your hot water tap pressure will only be as good as your household water pressure, as combi Boilers draw water directly from the mains supply. If you have a traditional Regular Boiler system and live in a small to medium-sized home, upgrading to a modern Combination Boiler will save you space and money.
System Boilers
System Boilers are incredibly efficient at heating hot water for your taps and radiators and are ideal for medium to large-sized homes.
System Boiler central heating includes a pressurised cylinder that stores an ample supply of hot water, which serves your hot water taps and shower.
The careful setting of your controls will ensure you always have hot water stored when you need it.
Water pressure can also be increased with the addition of a pump making your hot water taps and shower more powerful.
Back up immersion heaters can be fitted to the cylinder. The immersion heater heats water in the cylinder at the flick of a switch, so you’ll have a supply of hot water if the Boiler breaks down.
When installing a system Boiler, some extra space is required to house the cylinder.
Regular Boilers
Regular Boilers involve a traditional central heating system with water tanks and an unpressurised hot water cylinder. The system is constantly topped up and works on gravity.
Regular Boiler systems are complex with multiple parts. They are the least fitted type of Boilers these days, making way for modern combination and system Boilers.
However, regular Boilers are still fitted in homes that have a traditional style central heating system. (If you have a traditional style system, one option is to make the necessary upgrades to accept a new Combi or System Boiler, which may work better and save space)
Regular Boilers are very good for the largest of homes as they cope with the constant demands of hot water from multiple taps and bathrooms.
Which Boiler Is Best For Your Home?
Typically we will fit the following Boilers in these different types of homes
- 1-4 Bedrooms – Combination Boiler
- 3+ Bedrooms – System Boiler
- 6+ Bedrooms – System or Regular Boiler
- Homes with traditional style system – Regular Boiler
Boiler Sizes
All the above Boilers are available in various sizes to cater for different sizes of homes.
The best way to determine Boiler size is to look at the number of radiators your home has and the number of bathrooms in your home when choosing the Boiler size.
Boilers are sized in kilowattage (kW)
- 24 to 27 kW (for small homes)
- 28-34 kW (for medium homes)
- 35 to 42 kW (for large homes)
Boiler Fuel
We fit Boilers that are powered by the following fuel types.
Gas
Most homes in South Woodham Ferrers are connected to the gas grid. Gas is the best Boiler fuel. It’s cheap, readily available, and environmentally friendly.
While Gas is safe to use, there is always the slight possibility of Gas or carbon monoxide leaking, although these are rare.
Correct installation by a certified engineer and the use of Carbon Monoxide alarms mitigates the risk.
Alternatives To Gas
If Gas is not readily available at your property, Boilers are available for use with Electricity, Oil or LPG.
Electricity
Electricity is available at all properties and boasts zero energy wastage. They are also the safest of all Boilers, with zero carbon monoxide risk. Electric Boilers are, however, more expensive to run than Gas Boilers.
Oil
Oil Boilers include an external Oil storage tank that needs to be filled and topped up by a home heating Oil supplier.
Once the oil runs out, it will need refilling. Otherwise, you’ll be left without heating and hot water.
Oil Boilers are efficient with reasonable running costs, so they are an excellent alternative to Gas.
LPG
LPG Boilers run off bottled Gas which needs delivering and changing over when the bottles run out.
LPG is a clean and efficient fuel that’s more economical than Oil and Electricity and a good option if you don’t have access to gas and don’t have ample space to house a storage tank.
Makes Of Boiler
We install most makes of boilers which include
- Alpha
- Ariston
- Baxi
- Ferroli
- Glow-Worm
- Heat-Line
- Ideal
- Keston
- Potterton
- Saunier Duval
- Vaillant
- Viessmann
- Vokera
- Worcester Bosch
The Best Energy Efficiency
All the Boilers we install are condensing Boilers that offer efficiency rates 0f 90-99%, depending on the make and model of the Boiler fitted.
Condensing Boilers are very efficient and waste little energy, capturing exhaust gasses that would otherwise escape through the flue.
The recycled exhaust gas is used to heat water, ensuring minimal waste from all fuel consumed and that you get the very most out of your energy spend.
