Tackle Central Heating Sludge Effectively With Powerflushing
Central Heating Sludge is a naturally occurring mud-like substance that accumulates in your pipes and radiators.
Central heating systems involve hot water circulating steel and copper. As such, limescale is created while rust and oil come off the inside of pipes and radiators.
The mixture of limescale, rust and oil breakdown into particles and settle in the bottom of radiators. It’s very similar to mud/silt us. Heating engineers call it ‘Sludge’.
Over time the Sludge builds up in your radiators and pipes. The sludge absorbs heat, preventing your radiators from heating entirely.
You Boiler and pump have to work harder, placing unnecessary strain on them and shortening their lifespan.
More fuel is consumed to keep your home warm, leading to higher energy bills and wasted money. To top this off, your radiators don’t fully heat, so not only are you paying more to heat your home isn’t as warm as it used to be.
Don’t worry the Sludge issue is easily fixable with Powerflushing.
Powerflushing involves pumping chemicals and clean water through your central heating system until it’s clear.
Afterwards, your central heating is restored to its former glory, radiators are hot all over, and your house is warm. Of course, you’ll enjoy lower energy bills also as a result.
Less wear and tear is placed on your Boiler and working components when your central heating systems clear, so there’s less chance of breakdown and potentially expensive repairs.
Combining an annual Boiler service with periodic Powerflushing is the best protection you can give your Boiler and central heating system while ensuring it’s running at the best possible energy efficiency.
Do You Need Powerflushing?
Below is a list of symptoms. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms with your central heating system, it may need Powerflushing.
You must bleed your radiators before analysing your central heating system for Powerflushing.
If you’re unsure, call us on 01376 230156, and one of our engineers will advise you on the best course of action.
Water Colour
When you bleed your radiators, take note of the water colour. If the water’s clear or grey, all is good. Move on to the next step. If the water colours brown or, worse, black, your central heating system should be Powerflushed.
Leaking Radiators
Do any of your radiators leak? If any pinhole leaks are coming from any radiators, they are corroded from the inside out, and you will likely have brown or black water. Time to Powerflush.
Radiators Take A While To Heat Up
Radiators on a clean, central heating system heat up fast. If your radiators take too long to heat up, you may need a Powerflush.
Radiators Don’t Heat Fully
Do your radiators feel lukewarm rather than hot? Do any remain cold at the bottom, or the bottom and middle while the upper area gets warm/hot? If so, the radiators are built up with sludge, and your system should be Powerflushed.
Radiators Don’t Heat At All
If any of your Radiators don’t heat, the valves need checking. If the valves are ok and the radiator doesn’t get hot, it could be severely backed up with sludge.
Boiler Issues
Low pressure and continuous switching off boiler issues could be down to sludge. An engineer will check your Boiler first to ensure the problem isn’t related to a leak or faulty Boiler component.
Book An Appointment
If your central heating system needs Powerflushing, call us, and we will give you a price over the phone. The cost of Powerflushing depends on the size and condition of your central heating system.
Done In A Single Visit
Powerflushing is completed in a single visit and usually takes a few hours. However, the procedure can take longer or shorter depending on the severity of the sludge build-up in your central heating system.
Kamco Machines & Chemicals
All Powerflushing is undertaken by insured Gas Safe Registered engineers who have Powerflushed many central heating systems over the years.
We use Kamco Powerflushing machines and chemicals, the industry standard in the UK.
How It Works
Our engineer will arrive at your property and quickly inspect your central heating system.
A Kamco Powerflushing machine is connected and pumps chemicals and clean water through your central heating system at high pressure.
As the chemicals circulate the pipes and radiators, the sludge is dislodged, removed and broken down.
The machine filters out all the broken down sludge, which is removed into bottles. The engineer takes the bottles with him when he leaves.
The machine is run continuously until your central heating system is 100% clear.
Afterwards, a rust inhibitor is added to help prevent the sludge build-up from occurring again in the future.
Our engineer will switch your central heating system on and ensure all your radiators are heating correctly. You’ll be impressed with the heating speed and overall heat output.
