Increase energy efficiency and reduce your energy bills with a Power Flush. The improved heat output from your radiators will surprise you, and your boiler will be protected.

TM Hughes & Son Gas Services are gas safe registered engineers (with many years of experience) offering Powerflushing to Billericay residents.

Power Flushing is a complex process requiring specialist tools and chemicals. Always use a professional gas safe registered engineer with Power Flushing experience. Never attempt the procedure yourself.

Why Power Flush?

Central heating systems are made from copper and steel. Water flows through the pipes and radiators. Boiler components are also metal. Water flows around your central heating system in a continuous cycle. Water causes steel to rust and copper to corrode small particles gradually from the inside of pipes and radiators.

The rust and debris collect and forms ‘Sludge’ (as it’s known in the Plumbing industry), a solid substance that builds up and impedes your central heating system.

The boiler works harder (burns more fuel while shortening your boiler’s lifespan) to heat your system, and your radiators don’t heal fully.

Severe build-ups can cause blockages, boiler breakdown and even boiler damage, which can be costly, especially in the event of the boiler write off.

Powerflushing removes the sludge build-up from central heating systems. A flush every five years or so will keep your system running efficiently while minimising the chances of blockages and boiler breakdowns.

A clean system is cheaper to run than a clogged system full of sludge. Every part of your central heating system will last longer with periodic Powerflushing. Clean radiators omit the maximal amount of heat.

Benefits Of Power Flushing

Central Heating System 100% Clean – The whole system is cleaned with no sludge, rust or debris. Anything that will cause inefficiency, problems or even damage is left behind.

Only Takes One Visit – Power Flushing only takes a single visit and won’t need repeating for at least five years.

Clean Treated Water – Clean treated water is added to the system on completion added inhibitor will help prevent any further corrosion from occurring.

Validates Boiler Warranties – Many warranties for new boiler installations are not valid unless the system’s Power Flushed beforehand. The procedure will validate a warranty for a new boiler installation.

System Heats Quickly – Your radiators will heat quickly. The dirty sludge infected water you had before ensured your system warmed slowly, not anymore, now the water flows freely at the correct pressure.

Increased Energy Efficiency – Now the waters clean and the sludge’s gone, your boiler and pump don’t have to work as hard and less fuels consumed, giving you better energy efficiency.

Lower Fuel Bills – Improved energy efficiency means lower fuel bills; you’ll be less affected by energy price hikes.

Full Heat Output – Your radiators heat quickly and thoroughly. The whole surface is hot, whereas before, they only heated at the top and middle. Rooms heat quicker and less fuels consumed.

No More Annoying Noises – Most systems run quieter after a Power Flush, everything the boiler, pumps, radiators and pipes.

Less Chance Of Breakdown – Boilers work best running clean treated water through clear pipes and radiators. Large limescale pieces can cause boiler parts to stop and fail, shutting off the boiler in the process. A Power Flush dramatically minimises the chance of boiler breakdown. Rest assured, you’ll have a warm, disruption-free winter.

How Power Flushing Works

Power Flushing is the process of pumping chemical treated water around a central heating system until it’s clear. The flowing water is pumped at a pressure of 170 litres a minute and gradually loosens and dissolves all sludge, debris, rust and limescale and any other undesirable elements that negatively affect your system.

The duration of a Powerflush depends on your system’s size, age, condition, and internal state.

We use Kamco Power Flushing machines and chemicals, the best on the market and the preferred solution for most heating engineers. The machine and chemicals are designed to work together, effectively removing and expelling sludge from the central heating system.

Kamco machines run at enough pressure to clean the system without bursting any loose fittings or pipes. Rest assured they’ll be no damage to your central heating system.

The Process

  • The Power Flush machine’s connected to the system via the head or the pump this will depend on whether your boiler is a combi or system
  • The machines switched on which pumps water and chemicals around the central heating system breaking down sludge, rust and limescale
  • The broken-down particles are collected by the machine and removed, dirty waters collected and removed (we’ll safely dispose of it)
  • Large blockages that get stuck in pipes are removed manually with tools
  • The systems refilled with fresh water and a corrosion inhibitor, which helps prevent future corrosion, sludge and limescale build-up
  • The boilers switched on, the systems tested we’ll show you the improvement in radiator heat

Signs That Your System Needs Power Flushing

Clogged up central heating systems that need Power Flushing will exhibit specific symptoms. If you have noticed any of the below, then you may need a Power Flush; otherwise, check your central heating system for these issues.

Pinhole Leaks

As sludge, debris and limescale circulate a central heating system. They slowly but surely cause corrosion. Radiators are usually the first component to leak. Leaks start subtle, and you may not even notice them. They start as pinhole leaks but will gradually get worse.

Check every radiator in your home. If any are leaking, your system is likely full of corrosive water, and your radiator will need replacing. A Power Flush will move the offending water and help prevent any future corrosion.

Partially Hot Radiators

If any of your radiators are not getting hot at the bottom or worse, the bottom and middle, then a sludge build-up is responsible. Preventing your radiators from heating at the full capacity.

The reason it’s cold at the bottom (and middle in some cases) is that sludge builds from the bottom up. Removing the sludge by Flushing will restore all radiators to their former glory.

Cold Radiators

Some radiators are so badly built-up they produce zero heat. If nothing else is causing this issue (such as air in the system, faulty valves or boiler), this is a severe sludge build-up. Immediate Power Flushing’s advised. Otherwise, your putting your system under unnecessary strain and wasting money on fuel that’s not producing heat.

Slow Heating

If your radiators are slow to heat, then you could have sludge in your system. Sludge slows heating times down and lessons heat output. A clean system running on a serviced boiler will always heat up fast.

Dark Coloured Water

Clear or greywater is normal, and the sign of a healthy central heating system with darker coloured water indicates a dirty system that needs Power Flushing.

Observe the watercolour when you bleed your radiator. If the watercolour is black, dark brown or rust-brown, then it’s time for a Power Flush.

Noisy System

When running correctly, central heating systems run quietly. When components such as pipes, the boiler, radiators or central heating pump are noisy, then there’s usually an issue somewhere in the system.

The issue could be sludge. A full analysis of the system by one of our engineers will establish if your systems built up with sludge and needs Power Flushing.

Boiler Switches Off Regularly

Sludge restricts water flow which can cause boilers to switch off continuously. A gas engineer will first check the boiler for faults then the system to see if sludge is present and causing the issue.
