Do you need to flush your toilet more than once?
Is your toilet flush not as powerful as it once was?
Maybe it’s time for a new toilet you may be thinking?
Before considering a replacement or calling a professional Plumber, there are three simple things you can do to bring your Toilets power back to life to provide a strong flush.
First of all, give your toilet a good clean with a brush and some bleach. The rim is home to holes where water runs through when they become obstructed weaker flushing results.
Clean under the rim thoroughly, let the bleach stand for around 20-30 minutes.
Test the flush if power hasn’t returned move onto the next step
Now you need to check for a blockage. Blockages don’t always stop toilets many are only partial blockages which allow waste to pass albeit at a much lower pressure which is maybe why you have to flush the toilet more than once.
Get a bucket of water and fill the bowl, not right to the top though leave some room.
Now flush the toilet the extra water should make the toilet flush properly if you feel it doesn’t then you probably have a blockage.
Remove the blockage with a plunger or a drain-clearing coil if you can’t remove the blockage yourself give us a call.
No blockage?
Your fill valve may not be set properly, you may need to adjust the float.
Some toilets use a single unit (fill and flush valve or dual valve) other toilets use two units a fill valve and flush valve.
The valve is housed in the toilet tank and uses a float to refill the tank when water’s ejected on the flush. The fill valve sets the water level. The higher the level, the more powerful the flush due to increased water pressure.
Remove the lid of your tank and check the water level, can your tank hold more water? If yes, adjust the water valve to raise the water enough, so it sits just below the overflow tube.
You’ll know if the water levels set too high as water will continuously run into the overflow. If this happens, adjust the level until water stops running into the overflow.
Increasing the water level in your tank should improve the power of the flush.
Going through the above steps should improve your toilet flush if after following these steps your flush doesn’t improve then you probably need the parts replaced in your cistern.
