About Glow Worm Boilers
Glow Worm is a UK company and part of the Vaillant Group. Glow Worm started making Boilers in 1934 at their factory in Derbyshire. Glow Worm make reliable and efficient Boilers with high-quality heat exchangers. All boilers are made in this country from durable materials.
Glow Worm Boilers are available in Combination, System and Regular types.
Glow Worm Combi Boilers
Combi Boilers are the most commonly fitted Boiler in the United Kingdom, accounting for around 50% of new Boiler installations. Combi Boilers are compact and energy-efficient. They heat hot water instantly as soon as the hot tap’s turned on. Glow Worm designed the first mass-produced condensing Combi Boiler taking heating energy efficiency to new heights.

The smaller Glow Worm Combi Boilers are suitable for smaller homes such as flats and small houses with a single bathroom and 1-2 bedrooms. The small design also takes up little cupboard space. While system Boilers are generally better for larger homes with more than one bathroom and 3+ bedrooms, a larger Glow Worm Combi Boiler will cope with the demand. Glow Worm even make a Combi Boiler for the largest of homes which will cope with the more significant hot water demand.
When installing a Combi Boiler, you don’t need water storage cylinders or feed tanks, only a cupboard for the Boiler itself. Storage space is maximised with Combi Boiles.
There are multiple Boilers in the Combi range, in various sizes (so there’s a Boiler for every household) featuring Grundfos pumps, ‘A’ ErP energy ratings and guarantees ranging from 3-7 years.
Glow Worm System Boilers
Often a Combi Boiler isn’t enough for larger homes that require hot water from multiple points simultaneously (for example, someone taking a shower upstairs while another household member is washing up downstairs). Installing a Glow Worm System Boiler with a sealed cylinder for water storage ensures you have enough hot water all the time.
The System Boiler heats water which is then stored in a pressurised cylinder ready for use. System Boilers are connected directly to the mains water supply. They don’t need a feed and expansion tank in the loft. No tanks mean more storage space and easier installation and maintenance. While System Boilers won’t take up loft space (as Regular Boilers do), two cupboards are required for the Boiler and one for the cylinder.
System Boilers are available in a range of sizes, including 12, 15, 18, 25, 30 kW. ERP ‘A’ rated, with Grundfos pumps and guarantees from 3-7 years.
Glow Worm Regular Boilers
Glow Worm makes Regular Boilers (also known as traditional and open vented Boilers) for large households who need a continuous supply of hot water and older central heating systems in need of a new boiler that won’t cope with the increased pressures of modern combi and system Boilers.
Regular Boiler systems require two cupboards (one for the Boiler, one for an open vented cylinder) and loft space for a feed and expansion tank. The mains water supply fills the tanks in the loft. A second expansion tank maintains the correct levels. The tanks feed your hot water cylinder, which provides a constant supply of hot water.
Regular systems are more complex to install, service and maintain than modern Combi and System Boilers. If you have an old Regular Boiler, installing a new Combi or System Boiler might be a better option. You’ll have a more efficient system and more storage space. We can convert old systems to take a newer type of Boiler. When this isn’t possible, we can install a new Glow Worm Regular Boiler that’ll serve you well for years to come.
Regular Boilers are available in various sizes (from 12-30 Kw) and feature 3-7 year guarantees. Some have high efficiency ‘A’ ErP ratings.
